I recently recieved my first SOG, and now im hooked; unfortunately this is a very expensive hobby! :) I am pretty short on cash, but am thinking about a Trident. Since I don't have the means to buy two Tridents, I will have to settle for one. My question is if I dont have one to use and one to put on display, is it worth it to even use such a beautiful knife?

The Trident was made to be used. If you want a SOG that's not quite as "pretty" but still can take a good beating, then take a look at the Seal 2000.

I must confess I never used my Trident either... But it IS designed to be...

Oteyj, welcome and congrats on your new SOG. Which one did you get?

I'd recommend using the Trident if you do indead get one. I have 5 SOG knives and have used all of them.:) Getting scratches and marks on the knife will hurt at first. But years later you can show the knife to your children or grand children and tell them the stories behind all the marks.:)

In my mind there is no such thing as a knife that is too nice to use.

It's a production knife that will likely never be worth any more than you will pay for it, even if it is kept pristine.

I vote use it.

And I just happen to have one for sale, cheap...lol ;)

As to the Trident being 'too pretty' to use...use it, then decide!

oteyj,

just use the Trident and don't worry about "looks."

I recently messed up (very badly) the incredible factory bluing job on my SOG Bowie.... you won't have to worry about that with the Trident.

Cheers,

Carl

You could use it till your last day, but, it sure is nice looking right out of the box! :)
