Is there a "best" steel for patinizing a blade?

I'm unsure of which knife steel has the highest carbon content. But, I'd imagine the higher the carbon content the easier the steel would be to force a patina. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on steels will chime in sooner or later to help you.

I did a forced patina on my Para d2 using lemon juice concentrate. M4 on the Gayle Bradley looks great with the vinegar forced patina. Better than regular m4 IMO.

many a mora have been patina'd including mine, used rice vinegar and it gained a light bluish, almost anodized look

In my exp 1095 gets a patina real quickly. 01 also gets a nice patina as well. My a2 blades also develop them but it seems to take a tad longer.

Rebecca Tobey is an artist that works with metals and using the color from certain patinas to create her art.

You should look into her and what she uses.

In the Customs subforum you see a lot of knives in W1 and W2 with beautiful patinas/hamons.

Kiku's OU-31 etches very nicely as well.
