is there a better EDC then a good SIFU in D2-E?

Hello folks,

I've been carrying my SIFU around for two months now. I find it simply amazing, the D2-E cuts even when it feels dull, the rolling lock took some time to wear in, but no it's butter smooth, and solid as a rock.
The bladecoating has some user wear, but minor (it hold up much better then i expected).
I can carry it easy in my pants, and very comfy too.
I don't find the size bothering, in fact all other folders became small.

Now.. I'm looking for a knife to enter the edc rotation (I had a pinnacle, a 710, a stryker, a AFCK, a spydie endura a gerber SLG..all got beat by the SIFU, I hardly carry another rightpocket knife nodays), which could be better then the SIFU...

any suggestions? or is this a dead end search?

greetz, bart.

If you could tell us specifically what feature of the SIFU you preferred over say the 710, then we would have a direction to follow when making our recommendations.

what do I prefer of the SIFU over others?
1. sheer size (altough a little smaller would have been O.K. too)
2. steel
3. locking mechanism
4. fits my hand like a glove
5. multifunctionality..it's an awsome fighter, but also an awsome cake slicer, even light brush clearing works.

What i don't like.. I prefer the axis lock better because it's ambidextrious, and the 710 is more stylish.
It can also be a tad smaller, but no smaller then the 710.

any ideas?

Let me get this straight; You want a knife the size of a 710 or larger. You want the knife to have a steel better than ATS-34. And, you want a "super" lock. And, it "could be better than the SIFU."

I think you're on a dead end search, at least as far as production folders go.

Did you get the 710hs? With the M2 steel? That's my only suggestion, production-wise. There aren't many production folders bigger than the 710. (Cold steel makes a few.)

In the area of customs, how bout a Mayo TNT? Or maybe a Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx? I'm sure there's lots of other good custom suggestions.

If carrying around a folder the size of the SIFU presents no problems for you, you may want to take a look at the Strider custom folders. These feature massive liner locks (with an incredible amount of engagement area between the lock and blade tang), nice wide BG-42 blades (heat treated by Paul Bos, no less), and very grippy G10 scales.

Also, since you're no doubt aware of most of the positive attributes of the BM 710, be advised that Benchmade also makes a version with an M2 blade. Assuming equally competent heat treats, this steel is a slightly better performer than D2 in all regards save corrosion resistance (a drawback largely negated by BM's use of blade coatings with this steel).

You might want to check-out the REKAT Carnivour. It's smaller than the Sifu, but feels GREAT in the hand.:).

I can't think of a better EDC for defense style knife than a SIFU, other than say the Mad Maxx custom with a 7 inch blade. I'd stick with the SIFU. The other knives you mentioned the 710 and the AFCK have about four inch blades which for a defense knife is what I'd consider minimum length. Another knife that comes to mind that is fairly large :D is the TOPS CQT Magnum, I think that it has about a 5 inch blade, the down side is it has no pocket clip and it's fairly expensive considering that it is made with 1095 steel.
The SIFU is large and the only problem I have had with carring one is that it is a little large for light weight dress slacks. Jeans, BDU pants =no problem.
I think if you like large folding knives you found the best -SIFU

If you are looking for a folder that's just a little BIGGER than the Sifu, there's always the Cold Steel Vaquero Grande! This MONSTER has a 6 inch blade (13 inches "over-all"), and a NASTY set of serrations that are pretty much the full-length of the blade.:).

The Sifu rocks, especially the non-finger grooved ones (all gone folks, sorry if you missed out) - but man, I'm really loving the new REKAT Savant. Lightweight, D2 steel, G10 and aluminum handles, smooth action nice.

Between that and the Benchmade 550 Griptilian, you really can't go wrong.

Ok. I like that butterfly knife:D I really need to move to a new state, California sucks can't have butterfly knives :(

Yeah, the Striders are awesome. But if you don't want to spend $400 and you don't mind a smaller knife, the Al Mar SERE 2000 is serious hand - full.

Thanks all for the replies.

my conclusions: 1. stick with the SIFU
2.repress the knife buying urge till I got enough money to order a mad maxx.
3. A SERE 2000 is on it's way to me right now...what can I expect from this one? I'm a little anxious waiting for it's arrival.

greetz and thanks all , Bart.
