Is there a Buck 112 expert in the house?

At the Blade Show in 1999 I believe it was. Buck offered to club members at the show some interesting items. One was a 112 bladed up by the custom shop. But I do not remember all of the details on them. However I do have 2 of them and maybe one of you can help. I believe most of the parts used were older and the construction was of an older type but were put together with I think BG42 blades? Though they are not marked BG42 so maybe not. I am pretty sure the blades were newer than the other parts.

At any rate here are some pictures. Despite the look these have never been used and have been sitting on the boxes they came in since the show. I am sure these do have the then new Edge 2000 treatment.

Hi Thomas! The knife in your photo is indeed interesting. First of all, the frame appears to be a non-radius which would make it pre-1980, so you would be correct in that the construction is of an older type; it also appears to have black micarta handle scales which was used on the first 112's made in 1972, so once again, an older construction. As for the blade, it appears to have the anvil logo on tang; that logo was first used by Buck as a year date stamp for the year 2002 so could it be possible that the date you obtained it was later than 1999. The anvil logo has also been used on some custom shop blades after 2002 so it well could be later than that year. I have never seen a BG42 blade that was not stamped as such, but anything is possible with Buck. If I had to bet, I would go with the blade being 420HC.

I'm no expert. If the blade is not marked 'BG-42' or the paperwork you say you have with the box doesn't state this. I'd doubt it is. The handle material looks to be linen micarta with newer pin style/ pattern. So, not a old frame rebladed. The steel on your blade carries a 2002 stamp, making it 420HC steel. An item that is of 'older style' is the non-radius handle frame. DM

I stand corrected the year I got this at the Blade show was 2002. I am sure of that as my father purchased the ABS Peck award winning knife which was done by Russ Andrews. By checking past winners on the ABS site I found that was in 2002.

I just remembered these came with a letter and I did some digging and found it here.
