Hello all, I was curious as to whether there is a State left in this country where it is legal to carry a large fixed blade in any fashion you wish? Whether it be in a shoulder style, on the hip, horazontilly, any way you want. Is there a state left like that?

Hello sir.

I'm a fellow CA resident.

Check out Jim March's site for all the CA law info you want. Yes, its all regarding weapons.

http://www.equalccw.com/

In CA it already is legal to carry a fixed blade, so long as it is not concealed. You can also carry ANY SIZE folding knife as long as it is not carried locked open. i.e.; you must carry it folded.

Keep in mind of course, that if you walk around with a huge fixed blade in some uber-tactical shoulder rig or similar, you will probably get hassled by the cops. Not to mention all the stares. AFAIK, there aren't any restrictions on HOW you carry a FB in CA, so long as it is not concealed.

Frankly, your skin color and personal appearance will definitely have a bearing on your experience too. A mexican dressed like a gangbanger will likely get arrested or hassled a lot, whereas a white guy in a suit will probably just get asked why he's carrying that, if that. Obviously you'd look pretty funky carrying a large FB with a suit, but whatever...

Might I ask why you would want to carry a large fixed blade? I hope I don't have to tell you that a blade should be a last resort for a defensive weapon, and if you carry a FB with such a use in mind, you will most likely get busted for something, whether you are carrying it legally or not.

Hope this helps.

There's no CCW permit required in Vermont and now Alaska. I'd imagine they wouldn't hassle you for knives since there are no firearms permits required.

*sigh* Maybe someday the rest of the 48 states will join America. :(

To my knowledge... Alaska, Vermont and Arizona. I bet in most rural areas no-one could care. An upside to Canada is that fixed blade or folder of any length can be carried in public concealed or unconcealed (although they can call it a weapon and arrest you if it's concealed). Some townships may have restrictions. But there is no provincial or federal laws regarding it.

(checked it for spelling, no errors... I accidently hit enter)

I´m swedish so I don´t know nothing about that. I just think, that everyone, on every forum, should check their spelling before posting. It sure does look bad, doesn´t it?

The topic sir! Never mind, I just get annoyed at times, when people can´t even preview their replies before posting!

Take care

Come to the Old West in Arizona.

CCW permits are needed to carry a gun concealed. However, as long as two inches of the knife and/or gun can be seen it is not concealed. I usually wear my INFIcoot on my belt, and don't to many weird looks.

I have worn my Busse Basic#9 on my belt coming back from a camping trip and got some looks and whispering, but that could be from camping in the desert for four days without a shower.

Balisongs and autos are legal, and anyone can purchase them. I believe you can even carry swords if you wanted, but that would draw attendtion.

Georgia! I've carried all types of knives and NEVER been called on it at all. (At least for my part of GA).

Welcome to Vermont where you can carry a firearm either concealed, or in plain sight, NO PERMIT REQUIRED! The politaicians have been trying to change that for years. It's become Brady's ambition to stop Vermonter's from having this important right to bear arms. I believe edged weapons are okay too. I've looked into it and pretty much the law here says "Just don't bring weapons into a school or government property.

In North Dakota you can carry any knife you want as long as it is not concealed, it is very easy to get a concealed carry permit, and you can carry a blade 5" or less concealed with not problem, I can't really see the point in concealing anything much bigger than that.

You can carry anything you want in Vermont. Vermont has, like, zero weapons laws. We also have the lowest violent crime rate in the country. When we do whack other people here, it's usually with knives, drill bits, bats, rocks, and other non-igniting side arms.

We have had some really sickening, grisly-ass murders here, most of them non-firearm related.

Actually, Vermont has produced 4 murders in the last two weeks. Not bad for a population of only 609,000. I think 2 or 3 of those 4 killings were done by guns.

There are some anti-gun political elements in the Green Mountain State, but they are extremely underfunded and underpowered. Plus, they have no reasoning on which to build their arguments: non-existent gun laws coupled with lowest possible gun deaths will do that. :)

I think I need to shoot my new USP .45 this weekend.

I live in Vermont! *Dances*

It's also one of the states that allows civil unions... that doesn't bother me any, but it gives us a bad reputation.

A bad reputation with whom? Rush and the other neo-con radio blowhards?

Who cares what those bloat-bags have to say?

I don't care what other people think, I'm just saying it could be argued as a negative addition to our state. I don't think it is, though, I can handle ridicule.
