Is There a Consensus of what Constitutes a "Limited Edition"

I've been working on my point count before submitting my list on the Order of KAI thread and am having a hard time identifying what's a "Limited Edition". Obviously knives like a Tilt, Spiderweb Blur, or Volt 3600 are limited but what about things like the 07xx ZT's? I don't think they were intended to be short run by my understanding is not many were produced before they were discontinued. Does Limited Edition mean knives that were originally marketed using that term or under a certain number produced (1000 for instance)? Are "First Production Run, 1 of 500" like the first SpecBumps limited? Your thoughts please, and a list of those that qualify would be outstanding.

My apologies if this has already been discussed and I missed it.

I have the same question about a lot of my orange knives (packrat, od-1 skyline, zing, etc.), but for different reasons. They were certainly more limited than their non-orange counterparts, but also not limited to a specific number.

Just a suggestion, and only a part or what determines a limited production, I'd start with the stickys at the top of the page. The Leeks and Blurs are, at this point I would guess, still the majority of what has been done in limited production runs.

As for counting up points, I'm not even going to try. It's cold here, and I need to keep my toes warm.
:p

There are various definitions. There were 1423 pieces made of the 1595g10. I didnt count those as le but they are limited. Id count the 780 & 700 as le.

I consider the limited colorations to be limited. The orange Skylines, the brown/black Skylines, the orange Packrats, the camo Packrats, etc. The 0780, considering there were only few hundred, definintely a limited piece.

I think that it has to be a bit open to the discretion of those talking about it.

Would you categorized "limited editions" and "exclusives" together.

For example, Tiger striped Blur (Cabela's), the ZT 0350KW/ZT 0350SW/ZT 0200KW/ ZT 0360, etc

What about collaborations like the Daniel Defense Kershaw??

Would they/ do you consider them all to fall under "limited editions"??

or is it just terminology/semantics

I like Dave's explanation the best:thumbup:
I would say if it was not a catalogued item , it is limited.

I agree it's the best explanation so far. However, the Speedform 3500, Volt 3600, and OCC knives are quite limited and were in the catalog for 2010. I guess I'm hoping for an easy and accurate explanation but there may not be one.

Ya, I also do not think there is a perfect answer, but Daves answer might cover it best. It think most people will be a good judge of determining if their knife is LE.
