Is there a fix for a sheath with no welt?

I received my Husqvarna 26" axe today, and I noticed that the sheath that comes with it has no welt and could possibly damage the edge.
Is there any fix for this besides getting a whole new sheath, or removing the rivets to put a welt?

The rivets are, most likely, much softer than the edge of your ax. I wouldn't worry about it. But, you will need to pull the rivets (a pain) to insert a welt. You could stitch next to the rivet shank but the ax will cut the thread sooner or later. You could also run a bead of epoxy or rubber glue (carefully) or something else along the inside of the seam. Let us know what you try and how it works.

I wouldn't worry either.

Along these lines glue a leather a "mini" welt inside:

What ever way you go you may have to stretch the strap.

ive got a hatchet from them and since the rivet are copper or brass, i dont mind, its not like im pounding on the ground with the sheath on... (as my girlfriend once did with it.. gasp! ive managed to stop her in time, sheesh)

That isn't a bad idea, unfortunately all I have is super glue, which might work but will most likely fail over time. I imagine if I can cut a strip of leather with a bevel to sit in the crease the super glue will hold better.

Thanks so much for the idea of a miniature welt inside the mask, the axe still sits very well, and has much less movement with it on.

ill do that too, thanks for the idea! i bet you dont even need to glue it, just make it tight and jam it in there.

Yeah I made the strip of leather about 3mmx3mm with a bevel, and added some super glue to be safe.

Late as usual to the party, but the heads on the rivets are much larger diameter than the barrel/post which means, if they are properly set, there is no chance of the edge touching them. They can be smacked with a hammer lightly on some sort of anvil to tighten them if need be. But appears as though you found another good solution.
