OK I love the Becker BK2 knife but I hate the black epoxy covering on the blade and the black plastic handles.

I have looked for something similiar but anything I like is far beyond my budget.

So is there a knifemaker out there that would take my knife beadblast it and make some nice handles for it? For a reasonable cost?

thanks for any help.

I don't see why not, you should be able to find a few that have blasting setups and know their way around handles. Check out the makers section on the forum and shoot a few PM's asking for quotes and turn around time, I bet you'll find someone that can impress you with your BK2.

Seems to be a lot of knife makers can anyone point me to someone they know who might do this?

DIY, they sell ready to attach micarta handles for about $40 and I'm sure you can find a local meida blasting shop that will remove the coating with about any material you want. Unless you want custom handles and a hand rubbed finish then you may need some help.

Yeah I would like to pick the color of the handles and there is no media blasting in my area.

I'm about to start on a re-do of a RAT RC4...I'll be doing exactly what you describe, only to take the coating off, I'll be using Scotch Brite wheels on my Dremel.....blows that coating off like dust and doesn't scratch the blade at all:thumbup:

I just don't want the black coating off I want a on shiny sati surface.

Seems I mispoke after some searching I found a local place that does media blasting so for about $12 they will bead blast my knife.

Philip Dobson of 2 brothers knife company is going to work with me on new handles I will ship the knife to him after its blasted. The handles will be something along the lines of my Desert Sand VZ grips on my .45

Thanks for all the help guys. I will post pics of the finished product.

AKTHOR, nothing is more fun than modding your own blades. You can strip off the coating yourself using paintstripper, polish it up using wet/dry 3M autobody paper, and making your own scales to your specs.

Yeah I could DIY but I actually just have no time to take on something new with all my other interests it's worth it to me to pay someone to do it right.

I actually got some real good news today Lamont Coombs is a knifemaker about 10 miles from me in the town I grew up in he does pretty high end stuff so I wasn't sure he would take on my modest project but he agreed to! And very resonably too. He also has sandblasting facilities on site so it save me a lot of time I can just drop the knife off to him no shipping no going to different vendors. I'm pretty excited!

Thanks for everyone's help!

Finally it's done! The black one is the before picture.
