Is there a problem with this EKA Swede 10 ?

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice please.

I recently bought a brand new EKA Swede 10 Black with Sandvik blade from a retailer.

Please take a look at the two images below.

Is there an issue with the joint at the spine lock? It is not flush with the end of the blade; it is not even square with the blade length. The close up shows there is not proper contact. I noticed this as soon as I took it out of the box - it seems a bit sloppy as I was expecting all round precision in an otherwise great quality knife. Or am I being pedantic here?

I mean if you look at this photo below on the web of another EKA knife you can see a far more precise connection - an almost hairline contact - unlike on mine.

Thanks

Hi,

I think if I get anymore responses similar to yours I will *have* to take it back. I do have like 30 days to return it. But if there is a problem with it I don't understand how it could get through the manufacturers quality assurance.

What did you pay for that?

If it is an inexpensive knife, just use it.

If you paid north of $100, then complain to the company.

You are seeing where the metal laid over, when they stamped out the metal blanks for the latch. This is a small manufacturing artifact or mis-step, not a genuine "real" technical flaw.

It is only an aesthetic flaw, but if it seriously bothers you, trade it back in.

What he said. Won't hurt the function. I've got lots with similar fit and finish. They work just fine and get pocket time.

Hi,

I paid $53 for it. It's reassuring to know you regard it as an 'asthetic flaw' only. If that is the case I would probably keep it.

Hi

That's kind of what I wanted to hear to make me decide to not bother about it and keep it.

I hate returning things I bought.

Personally, I'd keep it, and use it.

Let us know how you like these.

I discovered today that inexpensive Swedish moras like to be sharpened on DMT diamond stones.

Just posting in agreement that it's an aesthetic flaw, not a functional one. You'll see it on many knives if you look at enough of them.

nice looking knife. what are the specs?
Hi,

Yes it's a very good knife overall.

Well, color me anal! If it was my $53 I'd take it back and exchange it. Unless it's some ridiculous amount of bother? I'm sure $53 was the price for a first quality version- not a second? Why should you settle for less than what you paid for?

Also, the more people settle for this kind of cr@p, the more we'll get of it. If you take it back at least somebody will see that their QC isn't quite up to snuff. Personally, I "settled" for a flawed Bark River Machete a while back, and am very sorry I did. Just to be clear, I don't think it was Bark River's problem- the tip looked like it had been dropped on it. A very small, but noticeable roll of the very point. At the time, I thought "no big deal, you don't use the point that much" and "it will be fun to fix it myself". Well, I couldn't fix it myself without just filing it off and making it look worse than it does. So now, not only does it piss me off that I didn't send it back, but I wouldn't feel right selling it either (turns out, I don't really need it- what a surprise!).

None of these may be issues for you, but if you wait you won't have any choice.

My $.02

Hi,

You are the voice in my head telling me to send it back !!

Maybe I need to run some kind of poll? Can I do that here ?

Should I send it back? Yes/No/Don't know/Maybe

I bought a EKA Swede 10 with wood handles today and I can assure you that it will be hard to fit atoms in that space! You should get it back and get a new one so you really can enjoy the fantastic quality of this knife.

I sell the knife in the wood version. If you don't return it the manufacturer may never discover the problem and correct it, plus it may be only cosmetic now but later could become a problem.
