Please forgive the blundering awkwardness of my greenhorn knowledge …but if I may, is there a Randall that epitomizes the ‘essence’ of that which is Randall to you?

Combat … 7” Model 1 w/ leather?
Hunter … 5” Model 25?
Something else?
The history of a vintage piece?

Close or way off to your thinking?

What do you look for in the Randalls that you add to your collection?

I’m neither a heavy user … wouldn’t keep ‘em in a case … nor a collector … as I wouldn’t hesitate to use for intended purpose ... although I won't cross paths with such frequently.

Please help ‘edjumicate’ someone who has only recently become aware of these fine 'tools'. Thank you for any thoughts.

First one I owned was a 19, loved its sturdy kind of appearance and heft....Second one was an early 18 than accompanied me to Vietnam....third, fourth, and fifth were Model 3's...the quintessential hunding knife....the 6th thru (gosh, I forget) were mostly 12-8" Big Bear Bowies....I really loved the upswept blade...the purposeful look...a grace of form and function if you will....but then, the model 14, 16, 2, 1 et al in the old accumulation all ooze "Randall"....but If I had to have only one, it'd be a 1...no...a 4....perhaps a 14/16/18.....but then a big Thorpe Bowie shadowboxed crossing a large Toothpick sure looks good in my den....:D

Either a model 1-7 in leather or a model 3-6 in stag.
Of course, a "Smithsonian" in walnut must be considered.

I just ordered my 1st Randall knife.
I ordered my favorite model 1st.
A standard #1-7" with a leather commando handle.
Had all sorts of options planned at first.
Then decided I better start with a classic.
No SS, No brass butt cap, No Silver,
No Stag-Fossilized-Micarta-Wood-fingergrooved,
borderpatrol grips, No saw teeth,
Just the Randall knife that initially caught my eye.
Come on 2006! LOL LOL
To me, the #1-7 is THE Classic Randall knife.
But thats just me............
Lots of fancy Randall made knives to choose from!
Good luck!

I love the old 1-8's with leather handle. Second would be the 14-7 in black micarta.
Military use makes up a good bit of Randall history.

There is always room for a big bowie in Ivory.
