Is there a Strider HT Tanto in all black? - Is there a better choice out there?

I'm looking for this knife:

http://www.gpknives.com/item/stride....html?osCsid=87b772e2beb34bc8dec1e053bd75cd22

That one has a black cord, but the blade itself is not black.

Does anyone know if Strider makes this HT in black?

Can anyone suggest a knife exactly like the strider, but of better quailty?

Or is this Strider HT top knotch?

I've only heard rave reviews from people who have it.

But I just want it in all black.

You aren't going to find a knife that is much better quality than a Strider.

Email them to see if they could do a custom in all-black for you. I'm about 99% sure they don't offer a standard production item in all black.

Thats awesome to hear.

What should I do, go to their website and just email customer service?

I would assume their website is just strider.com?

So I emailed them...

But they dont even seem to carry the Tanto HT on their website?

I know there are benefits to the cord wrapped handle, but doesnt it get dirty easily?

http://www.striderknives.com/site/

Their website seems very under construction right now - a lot different than I remember it a few years ago. I wouldn't worry about it.

No offense, but don't worry about your Strider getting dirty - they were made to be used. Paracord is extremely cheap and you can re-wrap it yourself.

haha no youre right, but if you drop it in the mud, its just not as easy to clean as say a rubber handle.

But then there are obvious reasons for a para cord handle.

I emailed them last night, I'm sure I'll hear something.

But I dont think they do custom orders at all.

As anal and stupid as this sounds, could I have the knifes finish stripped down and re-coated?

Who could do that and how much would it cost?

Yes, Strider certainly does custom orders but it may cost you extra.

As for the black finish, what I'd do is contact Walter Birdsong and have him apply his Black-T finish to it. It was invented for use on the exposed moving parts of nuclear submarines, so it's more than adequate for your uses. Its a nice, flat black finish that is extremely durable.

For grips, I'd see if Strider or Simonich can custom make you some gunner grip slabs to stick onto your knife, so that they look like the combat raven pictured here:

Good luck!

I have a call into Striders sales department.

I actually prefer the para cord, so those handles dont interest me, thanks though.

How much is this paint job with this Black T finish?

Does he strip the knife down, or just paint over top of it?

For a knife, I'm not sure of the charge, but should be less than $100.

it's not paint; it's a chemical coating that permeates the steel itself, so even when the finish appears to have worn off, it is still chemically bonded to the steel and still protects against rust and provides lubrication.

I've read many times that Walter is typically all too happy to talk to people about the finish that he invented. I believe he was a chemist at Dow or DuPont.

I think you should probably remove the paracord prior to sending it off to him.

Let me know if you need help finding his phone number.

OK, I just talked with that guy, really nice.

He said it would only be about $10 plus shipping for a strip down and a refinsih.

Wow, I'll be doing that for sure.

So between the Strider HT and this Black T coating, this thing is going to be pretty indestrucable?

How do you think the Tanto tip will hold up to chipping or breaking off during heavy use? Prying, digging etc?

Wow, cool! I'd like to call Walter & learn more about his Black-T, seeing as I have a couple guns finished with it. :)

$10 is an absolute STEAL & makes me want to send a bunch of stuff to him to have it coated in Black-T. I wonder how much he'd charge to coat my BMW in Black-T. Then I'd never have to worry about bird crap again. :D:D

Yes, a Strider coated in Black-T is just about the most indestructable blade I can concieve of. You really don't have to worry about the tip (or the rest of the knife) chipping or breaking; they are referred to as "pry-bars with an edge" for good reason; they are pretty much indestructable.

Look on YouTube for some "Strider destruction" videos. They are pretty hardcore.

After all the help I've given you, you had BETTER post pics of this beauty!!!! :D

Yes sounds awesome.

I'm just trying to figure out the best place to buy a Strider HT?

I've seen them priced for around $325, but that may or may not come with a sheath and most places dont even seem to have them in stock.

Does anyone know how good the kydex sheath they come with are?

If they are too thin, I would opt to try and find a knife without the standard kydex and get a special, harder one made at a later time.

So where can I find the best deal on this Strider HT?

http://www.truenorthknives.com/tnk_1mainframe.htm
In Stock At True North Knives Above Link. $325

http://www.bluelinegear.com/p-58-strider-ht.aspx
In Stock Blue Line gear-$325

I know you have heart set on HT But For a Little more-$350-$375 You can get EB-LT Almost same but G10 Handles.

See On www.bluelinegear.com or www.truenorthknives.com. Or Try Mad D Tactical.

But Both BLG and TN have Exactly what you want, HT Tanto In Different Color wrap right now!! they do not stay in stock for long.

You Question about tip strength? There is Not Much More Knife You Could Get that has More tip strength. It Is a Beautiful Multi ground Thick but pointy tip. You Will not be disapointed. If you decide to get EB-LT It's almost same but G10 Handle Is Nice.

Oh, Kydex Is Perfect too. You Do Not need a New Sheath at all, Unless you need a Nylon sheath like an Eagle jump sheath or something. But the Kydex sheath On HT Is Made Perfect for HT. And Real Kydex Is Only Supposed to make contact on you knife in 3 places. So Knife won't scratch from Kydex. My HT Kydex Is that perfect Standard. I Do Some days Like the spear Point version Better. But Both are Strong and Perfect Heavy utility and fighting knives. Same as EB-LT

I don't know for sure, But when I bought a SMF from www.bluelinegear.com It was shipped for free FeD-X 2nd day air. Maybe because it's lot of money, maybe becuse it's Strider. or Over $300? Same With www.truenorthknives.com.
I talked to both Men on phone and they where very Nice Men, And also if you do not like you new HT you can exchange it for different knife at both places no problem.

Hey thanks man.

I honestly prefer the paracord.

So the HT is perfect for me.

$325 seems to be the running price, I wont be able to find it cheaper on gunbroker/ebay or anything will I?

On a whole lot of levels, the above is very good advice.
