Is there a "Test DVD" for setting up a TV?

My son just bought a 52-inch LCD television. Awesome picture - but he was wondering if there is some kind of "Test DVD" that is available to help him optimize his settings? (Like the old Stereo Test Records! :) )
 
Many movie DVD's have a "THX optimizer" included on them. This includes tests for setting the picture on your TV correctly as well as test to make sure your surround sound system if you have one is setup correctly. I have quite a few movies with this feature included on the disc. The only one I can think of off hand right now is "The Incredibles".

That reminds me of the old days of TV when there wasn't much on except the Late Late Show .Of course there were only a very few channels and usually they showed test patterns all night. AND there were people who watched the test patterns for HOURS !!!

At least the test patterns had technical merit.
 
But without late night paid programming, I'd never have seen that guy smack the samurai sword and have it shatter into his leg! Maybe the greatest moment in the history of television. :D

At 3am, I start thinking, man, I NEED a vacuum that will pick up my bowling ball. :rolleyes:
 
Another one to try is called AVIA. Google to find places to purchase.

Also, both are available on Netflix if you subscribe, but expect VERY long wait times.
 
Hmmm I thought it was "Top Gun"--- that is the one I always use to test the sound system and tv setup....
