Is there a US-made version of this?

Check out Queen Cutlery, the first place that comes to mind, but this is a common style. Check out the green micarta line, it has one like your looking for or the Q-tac series.

Good luck

I would just buy the Boker.
Boker makes really good knives at awesome prices. You should jump on it.
I wouldn't be shy to get that one at all.

Queen Mountain Man
Schatt and Morgan makes one too
GEC has the scout and pioneer patterns that lock

Not that I'm China-shy, it's just that for a bit more $, it would be nice to buy this in home-grown form.

Stainless, slight flair at the heel, and lanyard-hole.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, Boker is originally a German brand, and 'home-grown' would ordinarily be Germany, for them.

Even so, they do have a very good reputation for quality, regardless of wherever they make their knives (Germany, Argentina or China). For the price, that knife looks pretty attractive to me, and the 440C ain't bad either.

My first thought when seeing this knife is, it looks a lot like the Case 'Back Pocket' pattern (TB61546). That one's non-locking and larger than the Boker. But, in the stylistic sense, very similar (and U.S.A. manufactured). Also available in ebony, BTW (pattern number TB71546 SS; vendor pic below).

I've had bad luck with their Chinese made knives with 440C. The build quality is nice which is what got me to buy in the first place. The steel isn't nearly as nice as the Byrd 8C, or Benchmade 9C. It could be the heat treat combined with the very thick edges. 440C isn't my favorite steel by any means but I've had better. Spyderco and Benchmade have done it better. The Bokers I have from China with 440C are gummy, rubbery burrs and don't like to get sharp or stay sharp. Other than Pakistan pot metal it's probably my least favorite knife steel. The Boker Soligen 440C isn't nearly as obnoxious.

Check out Buck's 500 series. You can go really crazy with s30v, exotic handle materials in the custom shop.

If its made in China there's surely an American made version, and its likely to be far superior.

This is pure malarkey.

Lots of Chinese made knives are just as well made as any American knife. One need only look at the offerings of AG Russell.

Albeit Japanese made, the Moki Pliant comes to mind. Moki is known for their virtually flawless fit and finish. The covers on the knife pictured are quince burl and the blade is AUS-8. Can be found for under $100...

VictorLouis, you may try looking around for a Case 21051 LSSP Lockback. These were made in the late 1970's - early 1980's and seem to be around; I saw a NOS one last week in a collectble shop for about the same price you are looking at in your linked advertisement. OH

Thank you all for the input. That MOKI is stunning! ..and the Case is virtually the same knife, but nothing on the Google in recent history.

I have looked at many Boker chinese made knives, they are not of the same quality as the german or even argentinian. I bought Boker MA-2, fixed blade chisel ground one on a whim by internet. Too reasonable to pass up and an interesting design. I was very disappointed. The grinds were terrible. So bad a gun show knife sharpener refused to regrind it. The sheath design and execution was pitiful.

Overall, I have been unimpressed by Boker, no matter where it's made. They have a lot of different price points and models, but for the stuff that's <$150, I'd recommend not buying unless you can have it in hand for inspection.

Moki on the other hand is great. So is AlMar, they have some lock backs that are more traditional. Both are at a higher price point than the Bokers.

If you are having difficulty finding the Case, here's a link from one of BF's member dealers (knifecenter):

They are available elsewhere also, as they're still part of Case's current line. I'll re-emphasize, the Case is considerably larger (4-5/8" closed, with 3-1/2" blade), if that is a concern for you.
