Is there a way to address blade play in a folder?

I'm sure it is an elementary question for the experts but many times its a criticism of some less expensive knives. Can washers or something like that be used , or are being used to tighten up an exposed blade? thanks!

I don't exactly get what you mean.

Do you have up and down blade play? If so look at the pivot (Assuming it's a modern folder) and see what type of tool it takes (It will most likely take a torx bit)
All you have to do is find a bit that fits and turn clockwise until you don't have play anymore.

Harbor Frieght is your friend. Item # 93916 & # 97517.

I used my CS Recon 1 to baton with & it loosened up a LOT. I thought it was ruined. Bought the 2 kits above, tightened everything up & now it is better than new.

seelow123 : you're right about poop, I don't challenge that. So, yes I'm trying to make something out of nothing. As far as the blade play, I was refering to side to side play. I did try torking it but it didn't have any impact. I don't doubt that in the end it's probably a fit and finish issue. But isn't that what things like washers, or other such stuff for? I'm asking too, not challenging. thanks! bib

I think you are referring to my sig line in the first part, That was said in a discussion about mantis knives.

What kind of knife are you trying to fix? I wasn't trying to be rude or anything i was just curious.

seelow123: no problem at all, Sir. I have a small automatic Smith & Wesson. I know it's a lower tier knife, but I think it looks very nice. It has that side to side blade play, and I was just wondering if I could address it. Best Regards, bib

Nothing wrong with that knife at all. Some autos tend to have blade play and if you try to tighten the pivot, it wont open very fast or at all.

The best advice i can give is to use i torx driver (Pivot size would probably be around t-8) and tighten it to where it still opens fast but has as little blade play as possible. You probably wont be able to alleviate all of the play but it wont rattle as much.

You need two kits because many of the folders or handles on fixed blades will just spin if you try to tighten from just one side. You have to hold one side while tightening up the other.
