Is there a way to remove/replace the grip tape insert on a Micotech Socom Elite?

I really want to buy a 2011 Microtech Socom with 20cv, but I really hate the grip tape inserts. To bad the Carbon Fiber version only has 35vn. Has anyone tried to remove and replace it?

I did that a long time ago... with a UMS and a Makora 1.

The grip tape is actually really nice. The CF inserts are likely paper thin as well & double side taped in. It should be pretty bomber either way though. Even knives like the $65 Kershaw Blur do a really nice job with grip tape inserts. (As far as aesthetics & quality application goes.) Ever seen what a skateboard goes through? It's stout stuff for sure. It won't scratch or crack & may be potentially less problematic overall if knocked around. Personally, if given the choice, I'd choose grip tape over CF for a user... MAYBE CF if I were considering it as an investment. I had one in 2001ish & it was a great knife! ...but my sebenza made it behave like a really expensive paperweight. I may try another in the future if Strider stops introducing new stuff! priorities, priorities, priorities...

I don't like the grip tape because it's way to rough on my bare hands. With gloves they would be great. I agree it tough stuff and provides great grip. But the roughest handles I can tolerate is Cold Steel's G10. Sounds like I can just peel off the old stuff and get some paper thin CF and cut to size..

I replaced it with ostrich embossed pig skin grom Tandy Leather.

You need to work on your silky soft hands some, do some yard work and you will get callused up in no time. ;)
Or you can keep the smooth hands and get someone to do some thin inlays.

Has anyone removed the carbon fiber inserts from a Makora, and did so cleanly? I have a new one, and I'd like to customize it a little bit by replacing the CF inserts with something else. If I want to sell it sometime in the future, though, I'd like to put the original CF inserts back on.
