Is there a way to stop your PC from filling in passwords?
My PC keeps doing this. I have clicked on "never for this site" but sometimes, I guess I forget. How do I do this, besides wiping out all of my cookies and temp files? I could start over, but somehow, there's always one I mess up. Thanks.
BTW, I use Firefox most of the time.

On Firefox, click on Tools => Options => Privacy => Passwords and fiddle with the settings.

You can make it delete all the passwords when you close Firefox, or you can manually delete individual passwords.

In Internet Explorer it's easy to find in the drop down menu.

Tools - Internet Options - Content - Auto Complete

Now I have a question. I have auto-complete turned off, but is there a way to turn off the dialog box that comes up every so often when I fill in a blank that asks me if I want to turn auto-complete on?

Check the box for "don't ask again."

Don't feel too stoopid; it's pretty common for people to close those obnoxious popup windows so fast they don't notice that.

Sorry Coug, I don't feel too stoopid, because there is no box to check that says "don't ask again."

I can't answer; I'm still on Windows 98 and your screenshot looks like XP.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with XP. I'm sure someone who is will see this thread soon.

I did this a while ago. My friend is an IT guy and showed me how. I hope I remember this correctly.

If you have Windows XP Professional:

1) Click the Start button and choose Run...
2) Type gpedit.msc in the box and hit OK
3) On the left side, Expand User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer
4) With Internet Explorer still highlighted on the left, find "Disable AutoComplete for forms" and double click it. Change the setting to Enabled and hit Apply and then OK. Do the same thing for "Do not allow AutoComplete to save passwords".

If you have XP Home (will also work on XP Professional):

1) Start -> Run -> regedit
2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
3) Double click "FormSuggest PW Ask" on the right
4) Change the value to no
5) Do the same thing for "Use FormSuggest"

This may be overkill but it should do it.

Okay, thanks Ryan8. I might try that, I might not. I'm a bit apprehensive about fiddling with the registry. :D

Edit: I just went and found those two places in the registry. Both values are set at 'no' and were already set at 'no' when I found them. Any other ideas, anyone?

P.S. I'm running XP Home.

How about "FormSuggest Passwords" in the same location in the registry? These are all set to "no" on my system.

Did you discover the problem and get it fixed? If so what was the fix.

I think the problem stems from going through and clearing everything regarding IE, including the autocomplete function even if I had turned it off and it was non-functional. I think that action turns the auto-complete request form back on.
