Is there an interest in forged throwing knives?

Hi All,

I'm a knife maker out of Virginia, and I am thinking of forging out a few throwing knives. I hope you guys can offer some info/advice. Where should the knife balance? How long a blade do you like? do you throw it by the blade or handle? What steel do you favor? Does a throwing knife have any other function other than throwing, i.e., is the blade shaving sharp so you can use it for other utilities? should it be double edged or single? And finally, do you guys see a market for hand forged throwing knives? What price ranges would you be comfortabe with? I hope you don't feel put upon:), and I hope you can give me some feedback.

Thanks,

Dave

price range is ususally pretty low for throwers (espeically for newbies which are already some what scared of ruining their knifes). Personnaly for me, I went with the cold steel series as they were fairly cheap (30 bucks shipped to me for 3), they seem to be proven to work (and indeed they did work for me), and they seem to be nearly industructable.

Thanks Eccvets,

That is really inexpensive, i can hardly see that price covering materials alone. I once saw a movie, wish I could remember the name, where a guy throws a bowie knife. It sticks in a post and just quivers. It was pretty cool. I've never had the nerve to throw one of the bowies I make, and anyway, I didn't design them for that. But I might try someday. It would be something.

Regards,
Dave
