Is there another knife out there like this one?

When I saw the Spartan Ares made by Spartan blades 2 months ago, I fell in love with the design.

However, when I learned it was made out of s30v, my hard want for this knife diminished. I am not trying to say s30v sucks, but for my needs I don't like it.
Is their another knife out there that looks very similar to this one and perhaps at a cheaper cost that is below $350. Maybe between $150-$200 :(

Moved to "General Knife Discussion" where a wider audience can assist with the search.

What exactly are the needs you have that preclude you for selecting S30V? It has become the staple steel for many mid to high end knives. Most manufacturers have a solid understanding of how to properly heat treat it, it can be easily sharpened, and holds an above average working edge for a long time.

Also, use caution when dropping tactical knife posts into traditional. It's frowned upon a wee bit. :)

Check out the Benchmade Nimravus. It can be had for a reasonable price and is 154CM steel.

I own an Ares and the first sentence of this thread grabbed my attention. The next sentence lost it. :(

How do you like it? Have you had a chance to use it for a while to see how it is?

I've had it for about six months and it's seen some light use. I'd have to say at this point that it's my favorite fixed blade and it's not close.

Why don't you check out the Tops line. They mostly use 1095. The blade you posted reminds me of some of their designs, in particular, the Apache Falcon.

The Ontario Ranger Series TFI has similar lines. 1/4" thick 5160 steel, flat grind, micarta scales, around $75.

Try the Kabar Johnson Adventure Baconmaker. The blade is 1095 Cro-Van. The cost isn't bad either.

Exactly what I was thinking, the two knives look very similiar , plus if you buy the BaconMaker you get a free small 'throwing knife'. Ka-Bar does their 1095 quite well. :)
...and I don't blame you a bit for not wanting S30V , not my cup of tea either.

I've got a Baconmaker and to my eye, the resemblance is very faint. Really all they have in common is the thumb ramp on the back of the blade. The BM is a recurve blade to start, with a bit of a clip point. No extended butt, the grip is in-line with the blade, not canted. But hey, to each his own.

If you want hi-carbon non-stainless, tough steel, you could also check the sales forums and try to pick up a Greco. I am not sure but I think that he does not still make them. I have one very similar to the knife you pictured, but it is not for sale.

I happen to already own the Baconmaker. It's a sick knife, but with that curve in the blade, it makes me hesitant to use it often because I know it going to be a pain to sharpen. I heard there is a sharpening stone called the "Lansky Puck" (if that's how it's spelled) that can be used on blade that has a curve in them.

Mineral Mountain has some similar knives: here is the Persian fighter:

That's a very nice blade. Are they a small company, and how much does that blade run for?
