Also thought of lapping or polishing films, stuck onto an existing hone. So long as the working surface of the hone is set in the same plane as the rod, the difference in thickness will not make a difference in sharpening angle. In other words, apply the adhesive film to the hone, then re-set both the hone and rod against a flat surface to make them flush. Angle will not be altered this way; it's one of the advantages of the Lansky setup, in that the hone's position can be adjusted up/down, relative to the guide rod, which renders the hone's thickness irrelevant to the setup.
One or a couple duplicates of the smoother Lansky hones, like the 600 'Fine' or the 1000 'Ultra-Fine' would work well for attaching the polishing film.
