Is there any chance of KaBar/Becker or ESEE making a D2 version of BK2/ESEE5 ???

Ive been thinking about this for a while. I would pay top dollar for a 1/4 inch thick D2 masterpiece, with a mid to high chromium blend for anti corrosion properties. This is probably wishful thinking or just pure fantasy.
 
Agreed - D2 wouldn't make much sense for the "overbuilt", "take all the abuse you can throw at it" knife of the lineup...but, if it's any consolation, Ethan acknowledged that there has been talk of a D2 tweener. Obviously, talk is only talk unless/until said D2 tweener happens; but at least he didn't say That one isn't happening.
 
I'm pretty confident that ESEE won't be doing any specialty runs in the near future -- they're manufacturing capacity is pretty tied up in their 2014 releases.

OTOH, I know at least one custom maker listed in my sig-line that posts frequently in this forum and could make you something in D2, 3V, elmax, or some other higher end steel for a reasonable price.
