Is there any hope for my BM minigrip D2

I picked up a minigrip in D2 a while back, and while I really like the knife the edge didn't come as sharp as I hoped. I tried using my sharpmaker, and that didn't seam to do anything. So I bought the diamond rods, and while they seamed to actually remove metal I still couldn't get it sharp. Parts of the blade did get sharp but not the whole thing. I have successfully sharpened many knives and I'm pretty confident in my ability. Maybe I just didn't spend enough time on the diamond rods or something. My full size grip came scary sharp, and sends hairs shooting off my arm. I'm just kinda curious why I can't get the D2 version sharp. Tomorrow I'll give it another shot. Does anyone have a similar experience with the D2 minigrip?

You more than likely aren't hitting the edge. Try the Sharpie trick? There is nothing wrong with it so plenty of hope. Now whether you are able to get it where you want or have to get someone else to sharpen it or send it in for the Lifesharp service is another question.

The edge on my Griptilian 551 came from Benchmade with a horrible grind on almost 1/2 the edge. That poorly ground part of the blade came dull and very difficult to sharpen due to it's awful and inconsistent angle. I'm going to have to send mine in for their lifesharp service eventually and it seems that you could do the same.

BM uses too steep of an angle on their edges most of the time, sounds like you need to reprofile the edge and make the angles a bit shallower.

Yes. I find their factory edges to be "somewhat different" than what I like, so when I buy a BM, I give myself some extra time before I count on carrying it to send the knife off to Lifesharp if it needs it. Every time I've done that, without exception, the knives have come back as sharp and ready to use as they should have been in the first place. They are also ready to be maintained on the Sharpmaker.

I'd suggest using Lifesharp for the first resharpening.

I gave it a bit more time on the diamond rods at 30 deg, and she is almost perfect the tip still isn't quite there yet though.

It;s D2, give it soem time. That does suck that it wasn't sharp out of the box though. My Benchmades have never had that problem, even my D2 fulsize Griptillian.
