Is there any merit to grease sticks for abrasive belts?

I ordered my first ever set of ceramic belts today and the website I purchased from was advertising grease sticks for abrasive belts underneath the belts. They claim the grease sticks will keep the belts cooler and make them last longer. Has anyone here had any experience using grease for abrasive belts, ceramic or otherwise?

I just had never even heard of the concept of lubricant (other than water or whatever you are dipping your blade in of course) for abrasive belts and wonder if it is something worth looking into.

For aluminum its almost essential. For steel I've never found much difference. For knife work I personally wouldn't bother.

Underneath? I have some that's meant to go on the abrasive side. It just seems to clog up the grit. I don't use it.

I've got a big tube of it, didn't know it was supposed to go underneath.....
It doesn't really seem to help so I stopped using it a long time ago

Yes, but lubricant is pretty much essential for doing stuff like riding the the ends of one of Nathan's platens.
