Uncle Bill,
Any word on how things are going with the construction of the new shop? Are the Maoists staying a way? Have any problems arisen?

We should form a vigilante group of Kukri-armed forumites to deal with those Maoists.

I hear (repeat "hear") that we have pix and progress report in the air. Foundation and support pillars are complete so they tell me. Now it's a matter of pouring the walls, ceiling for first floor and floor for second) and roof for second. All cement. Only wood used will be frames, window frames, doors. Ended up digging a dry well so will probably have to haul water -- major, major pain. Phone and electricity okay but with some difficulty.

Thanks for the news. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures when they show up. How will the water be hauled? Does Pala have a truck? Has he thought about building a cistern? On the Navajo resevation the "out of the way" houses have water storage on towers. They drive to town once a week to fill up drums in the back of the pick-up and take it back to the house to fill up the water tank. Gravity "feeds" it into the house for them. Maybe Pala could try something like that?

Hmmm, so there's more than just my collection of Khuks in Navajoland. I know some people building a hogan, and I'm going to take some khuks out to perform miscellaneous labor when they cut the trees. :)

I'm guessing but I think the water will be hauled in by a tanker truck -- maybe 500 or 1000 gallons. Stored in a ground level tank. Pumped up to rooftop tank of maybe 100 gallons for gravity feed supply. No matter how they do it hauling water is always a major pain.

If they can design and build some kind of collection system which should not be too difficult at least during monsoon season water supply should not be a problem.
