Is there any place to take your knives to be sharpened in Chicago?

Just out of curiousity.....is there anywhere locally (around the Chicago land area) where I can just take my knives to be professionally sharpened?
I'm looking for someone who knows what he or she is doing. I don't want my knives trashed by someone who is inexperienced. I know I can send it out to be done, but i would prefer to wait & watch. I hate shipping knives out...just because there is always that possiblilty where it gets lost en route. Insurance or not....it's still a pain!

If you know of someone or a business that can do it & do it right, then please let me know. I can do some knives on my sharpmaker, but I for some reason cannot do all

Sorry don't live in that area, but if you are having trouble freehand sharpening you could always by a set up. The Spyderco 204 or Edgepro are two great fool proof ways of getting razor sharp edges on your knives.

I'm in the south suburbs and I'm set up with a belt grinder and buffer-I'd be glad to sharpen your stuff gratis if you'd like.

Hi Larry....I will send you a private e-mail.

Thank you!

I do have the Spyderco Sharpmaker, but seems like I cannot "make<> sharp" all of my knives :D Oh well.......

O.K Larry, maybe I won't send you a message :)

I just tried & it said that either you don't wish to except private messages or your not allowed to receive them :(

Who knows....but e-mail me back with your address & your phone number & maybe we can work something out. Let me know where about your located at. I'm in Tinley Park. I am off of work Monday & Tuesday this week. Or maybe we can do it sometime after we get off of work.........

FYI, I am LQQking for as close to perfect as I can Larry. If your that good, then I can bring you some business. The knives I need sharpened are in the $300 & up range....so you can see why I need perfectionist.

Let me know & I thank you for your reply!

I don't know how far you want to go to get your knives sharpened, but here are a few places you might try:

Northwestern Cutlery & Supply, Inc.
810 West Lake Street
Chicago, IL 60607
312-421-3666

Bagat Brothers Sharp Knife Service Co.
7621 West Roosevelt Road
Forest Park, IL 60130
708-366-2818

I know that they sharpen cooking knives, Bagat will sharpen just about anything. Best thing to do is to call them and see if they can help you.

I hope this helps,

Jubei
