Is there any reason to buy other then Ka-Bar?

I own a good many Ka-Bar products made over many years. I keep buying them.

Having said that, Ka-Bar makes only a tiny fraction of the various patterns of knives, having an especially small selection of folding knives and stainless steel knives.

If you are happy, that is good. You are in a small minority, as can be factually said of the fans of any particular brand.

I think you could be easily be a KA-BAR franchise player. The only niches they don't fill that I can think of are multitools and axes.

Slipjoints, modern medium/large folders, neck knives, filet knives, small/medium/huge belt knives, a few gimmick knives, large wood choppers, and a wet media machete (not real long though)... with their catalog (and throw in Cutco's for kitchen tools) I think anyone other than a collector or a user with very particular requirements or unusual needs would be able to make it from day to day just fine.

If all I owned was a dogs head chestnut trapper, phat bob, BK11, BK2, filet knife, the Cutco kitchen knives I have, and Cutlass machete, I'd never need to buy another knife the rest of my and my kids' lives.

But since knives are toys as well as tools for me, there's all kinds of buyin' in my future still :D

I've found Kabar to have everything I need, besides my multitool. For straight up knives though I see no reason to buy from anyone else.

Kabar makes a very limited repertoire of knives, IMO. They have the becker knives going for them, but other than that.... USMC, D2, MK1 and the heavy bowie are the only ones that I would consider buying.

Someone could very easally be a 1 knife company kind of guy when it came to everything but kitchen work and certain other dedicated tasks. I've seen it a lot with Busse Combat and other high end makers though sometimes with old school traditional makers too like Case.

I've gone on brand kicks before, but always ended up rounding out my collection with other brands also. Right now I have around 80 knives/machetes from around 25 different makers. If 1 knife company works for you go for it. For me, variety is the spice of life and knives from different brands tend to compliment each other. ;)
