Is there any way that I can replace SERE2k's thumb stud?

I just tried to carry it for one week, and it opened twice in my pocket due to the long thumb stud. Fortunately it only left a BIG hole on my pant and didn't cut my finger, but just imagine a fast draw...

Is there anyway that I can replace this thumb stud with a "normal" single-sided stud? Will AMK factory do that for me?

I have a solution, wear looser pants!

I have had my Sere 2K open coming out of my pocket quite a few times. I just draw it from my pocket with care, sort of like I expect that it can "wave" open. As long as you don't open it sitting down it shouldn't be a problem. Just don't pull it out of your pocket toward your body.

If the knife is coming open IN your pocket, you should probably try to carry it in a different way. Since the Sere 2K is a tip up knife, I carry it in my right front pocket, all the way to the right side with the spine of the knife firmly against the seam of the pocket. That way it can't come open IN your pocket, but it might come open on the draw by your pocket catching the stud. Just expect it and try to be careful.

My advice would be not to replace them, but to file 'em down. you could take a file to them and finish with sandpaper and they should be fine. My problem with the studs on my Sere is that they are coming loose. I have tried to tighten them but it doesn't seem to work. Oh well - as long as they don't fall off I'm not worried!

I recall the knife to be a tip up... you're wearing it with the spine to the seam of the pocket, right?
I've seen my friend's SERE 2000 first hand, but I don't recall the thumbstud to be overly bad that would catch easily...

I took the Dremel to the offending outward facing thumb stud on mine.
Never opens when drawing it any more.

Do you have any idea which studs will fit in if I remove the current ones?

How I wish spyderco will make a "spyderized" sere 2k... imagine a sere 2k with spyder hole, then there will be no accidental open anymore, plus the hump area above the hole can be serrated to place your thumb...
