Is there anything special about current production Case Tested XX knives?

I just received a Tear Drop from this line Tested-xx-Olive-Green-Bone.

I have searched this forum and the web in general and all references I find to Tested XX are to historical collector pieces.

For my particular example -Olive Green Tear Drop- I have the "XX" shield, a blade print that will surely wear away, 1 of 800 knives (per item description, but not on knife) and no "Tested XX" tang stamp.

Is there anything special about current production Case Tested XX knives vs the same pattern on non Tested XX? Is it just another version of the "Limited Editions" which are generally 3000 pieces?

I believe its just a marketing thing. I'll be interested to hear what others say.

Well I'm liking the size, the olive green jigged bone, the bow tie "XX" shield and the thinness. I can live with the non-centered blade.

Might not be collectible, but it's a keeper.

I just got the stockman a couple days ago. It's the 3 7/8" size, which I like most because of the clip point blade shape. I think the shield is a cool one and it'll be a good little work horse for a while...

3000 units are a lot of slip joints. Consider GEC's production. Many are under 100.

Nothing wrong with Case knives. I like to inspect mine before buying however. I think they have a leg up on Bear & Sons certainly in terms of overall product quality. Bear could do better. Next visit to the big knife store in Sevierville TN and I will probably be looking at Case knives. Last visit was Hen & Rooster and one before was Condor. I always take a look at the Victorinox SAKs when I'm there as they pretty much carry the entire selection. That's right... two visits so far this year.

The Tested XX run is 800 (the "Limited Edition" runs are 3,000), I'm sure that is still way more than the run of my GEC Micarta Coyote #18.

I wish I had knife stores closer to me, I'll have to do the 2.5 hour round trip to Country Knives in PA one day.
