Is there anything special about this Buck?

nope that is about what they are at wally
some times ya can pick up one for less on price but the shiping gets ya!
always check total you would have to pay
many times some light use ones will drop to 15 with 5 ship and are good deals on a user!
welcome to the buck forum! some times we are a tad infected with buck feaver but itis all fun !

The only thing special is that it's in a box. Most of the discount retailers have them in clam packs (except WW but someone here said they are moving to clampacks too).

My Wal-Mart never prices them down. They hold at $34.86, so this is not a bad buy. Some Wally's do discount them to around $26, but no where near where I live (southcentral Colorado).

So I am not missing something about this one.

Auctions are funny. I used to go to gun auctions. The only thing I ever bought was some cases. There were people there that would bid in excess of retail for guns that were nothing special. they would get all caught up in the bidding. I understood the retail prices so I never bid to high.

I guess I will keep looking.

That was a good buy with papers, box and the leather sheath.

Unless that seller has a few more, you'll probably have trouble equaling that deal.

So how rare is that knife?

Can't you just go into a retail store and buy one?

Why would you have to go to Ebay to buy one?

What retail price would you pay for something like that?

I guess it all depends on where you live. Here in south/central Colorado, we're pretty isolated and there is but one place to buy a Buck 110 over the counter--Wal Mart @$34.86 and at times they are out. The next nearest place is a minimum of 125 miles away. There is a Wal Mart in Espaniola, NM, that is a little closer, but they don't carry the 110, although, they do have a good selection of the 300 series Chi-Bucks. Those aren't available here except in limited numbers.

So, I guess, if you have another choice, wonderful. For some of us, mail order is the only option. Watch out for shipping. Some eBay sellers get rediculous with their shipping and handling. I also won't bid on anything that the seller won't accept Paypal, either. By the time I go down town, buy a money order, stamp, and then wait 2-3 weeks, I'm not interested any more.

But, that's me. Thanks for letting me ramble. Jack

1> Not

2> Yes

3> To reduce global warming by not driving to the store

4> No more than $35 including tax (IMHO)

I am happy with the area I live in. I am lucky (and I guess a little spoiled) to have a plethora of sporting goods stores. I have one Cabela's 1 hour South and another 45 minutes North. I have a Sportsman's Warehouse and a Gander Mountain about ten minutes East. I also have a few mom and pop type stores and a Dick's nearby.

When I need something I go to one of those. I think of Ebay as a place to get a deal or to get something that is collectable or discontinued.

Must be nice to have so many choices. I am happy with where I live, though, even if my shopping has to be done via internet or catalog. I'm a card carrying Cabela's nut, but the nearest is over 8 hours away. All of our Mom and Pop stores, here, have been put out of business by Wal-Mart. I'd rather be kicked in the butt with a frozen moccassin then to shop at WM--but sometimes there is no other choice. I watch eBay looking for bargains, but they don't seem to happen as much as they used to. Hard to find or specialty items sometimes turn up, you just have to be careful with what you want to spend and know what you're looking for.

I am that way no matter what I am shopping for. Especially with items that I will be carrying in my front pocket everyday and with items that I would like to keep for a while like a pocket knife.

People have accused Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops of some of the same sort of predatory dealing that is usually pinned on Walmart. When Cabela's or BPS moves into an area some of the mom and pops go under.

That 110 is brand-new (it has the 2007 tang stamp). I'd say that is a good buy.

Beats paying $3 a gallon to drive an hour to Wally-World to buy it. That's pretty much exactly the same price as at my local WW. If you want a user 110, that would have been a good deal. :)

So how rare is that knife?

Goose pretty much hit the nail on the head. But here goes...
Its not rare.

Can't you just go into a retail store and buy one?

Sure if you choose to.

Why would you have to go to Ebay to buy one?

You don't have to go to ebay. BUT I can sit home and buy it, and it will be in the mail box in 4 days. Why drive 30 miles to get it when the USPS will drop it off for 3 dollars cheaper:confused:
To each his own, I guess;)

What retail price would you pay for something like that?

$35.00.
;) good job Goose

The only thing I don't like about the thought of buying a knife on ebay is that the knife may look nice in the pictures but it may not be mechanically sound (blade play, etc). I opened my 110 clampack in Dick's parking lot to make sure I wouldn't have to drive back. Call me paranoid but I got stuck before on a non-knife item on ebay that looked pristine in the pictures.

Myself..... I just don't like clam-packs.

I have made a vow......I will never buy anything in a clam-pack again.

That's why the knife in question looks real good to me. Now that I've seen it, I wish I'd had a chance to bid on it.

Still, Tracker2 is quite correct.....buying on e-Bay always carries one risk or another (or several risks) so........we each must do what we must do.

If you pay by CREDIT CARD thru PayPal you can be fairly certain of getting a refund......but you'll have to pay to ship the knife back. So, you lose five bucks or so if it turns out to be a dud.

Most things worth doing contain a risk.

I was in one of our local wallys just a little while ago and drive out on a boxed 110 was just shy of $27

As to prices... I picked the best looking clam-packed, with leather holster, 110 I saw at 'Academy Sports/Outdoors', a Wacko,TX based chain, when they were sale priced at $21.99 a month or so back. It was like every other Buck I have bought new from a dealer - perfect. My only not-so-perfect Buck is the Ti handled 560XLT/110 I bought from a re-seller - it is stiff as can be - just like a friend's similar model (It may just be the Ti handle...).

According to the Buck '07 catalog, Buck catalog #9210 (Boxed) and #1268 (Clamshell), both have an MSRP of $62.00 (Finger groove versions are MSRP $72.00.) and include a black leather sheath. While the nylon sheath is unusual, the 110 that you get so cheaply at Wally World is just as good as the full MSRP one your Ma-Pa fishing/hunting supply store has on display.

Reportedly, W-W is trying to get clerk-intervention down to zero by going to the pegboard hook mounted clamshell variant rather than the easily opened box that must be secured behind the counter - and sold there as well. Academy chain stores around here even insist on 'walking' your knife purchase to the 'Customer Service' checkout - too much pilfering. As much fun as the clamshell is to open, I still wonder about that folly. Kind of insulting... like the W-W exit receipt checker - one told me of catching a large screen HD LCD TV being 'pilfered' - and caught.

As to gun sales, W-W dropped them from most stores due to economic concerns, ie, the floor space could make more money with other sale items - and the fact that anyone filling out the Fed #4473 so-called 'Brady Form' and selling the firearm must have a clean record - not so easy to do with near minimum wage pay young folks. Two rural W-W stores reportedly still carry them. Local laws may preclude some knife sales, too.

I feel that the 110 is a bargain at the MSRP - or so I tell my wife. It makes the Bass Pro 154CM blade, Cabela's Alaskan Guide S30V blade, and Buck Custom Shop 110's easier to get her approval on! Yeah, mail order is easier - even if my W-W is <1 mi up the hill from my home - and Academy is ~8 mi. The nearest locally owned sporting goods store - with MSRP prices - is a true Yuppy Paradise - and ~22 mi.
