I've been using search and wading through a lot of information and I really want a book on repairing and restoring and can't seem to find anything that is worth the paper it's printed on, that I've seen. I guess a book on making knives might be just as good as it would give me an understanding on how certain models work. I've got a bunch of old broken junk from other people or yard sales that I want to tighten up, replace pins, switch blades out, etc... And some that are only worth salvaging the blades or scales, can someone suggest something printed?

Also looking to put together a general maintenance, builder kit with spare parts and tools for repairs if someone could point me in the right direction there, I know the websites like kitknives have the parts, would like to get a basic start up supply, pins for Swiss army knives, taps, bits, drivers, etc... I already do this for locks and restore them would love to do something similar for knives.

Thanks for any insight you guys might have.

This is a Really good question and I am interested in any responses as well. If I stumble across something I will edit to inform.

You're a member of Bladeforums, why do you need a book :).

I'd be very surprised if there is a question someone could ask in regards to knife repair, restoration, or locating parts, that could not be answered somewhere on this forum. I'd wager that this forum offers a lot more knowledge than any book.

I buy most of my knife parts and materials from Knifekits.com. I have also purchased from USAknifemakersupply.com. Besides those two vendors, there are many others that sell knife parts and tools that can be used for knife repair.

Thanks Bill that is a lot of info there will have to print some of this up as refrence I've found some books about repair but they all get bad reviews about outdated incomplete, I guess there are so many models out there it'd be hard to put them all down, but you'd figure a good primer on certain locking devices, pins, spacers and what not would exist. i will keep looking but this will give me some great resources as well.

Thanks.
