So one came in the mail today and lockup is tight but the blade feels very loose when closed? I can rattle the blade simply by standard movements?

I have a manix 2 and a manix 2 XL and they are not like that.

does it only have side to side bladeplay when closed?

Mine has a little side to side play if I push the blade side to side when it's closed. I honestly hadn't even noticed until you brought it up, which shows how insignificant it is. But, you may try tightening up all the body screws on your knife and see if it helps.

I agree with Scott. I can move the blade in mine when the blade is closed, but I had never noticed till you asked and I specifically tried to wiggle it. Obviously, the amount of movement in mine is not a problem to me.

Well I have 4 sprint run Manix 2's all different ages, as a matter of fact I think they made a slight change to the lock after the blue and green came out but before the tan and black (CTS-BD30P) and 1 regular Manix XL and all move side to side when closed much more than any of the other knives I have (AXIS lock knives are second), however none rattle or move just from being turned back and forth, so I'm guessing this is just something to do with the caged ball lock. Also I will note that none of the 5 have any blade play when open.

No blade play when its locked open though? Is it very gritty feeling when opening? If the blade is fully open, but you manually disengage the lock does it wiggle side to side?

I've had 3 M2s and an M2XL. All have shown some slight movement if I really push on the blade, but nothing like a loose "wiggle". That's a long, heavy blade and it can be shifted a bit if you try, but if there's a rattle or a real wiggle, I'd say that's a problem for W&R.

Yea, open it's locked up solid, i can literally make it rattle when the blade is closed by simply wiggling it. Video to follow.... Very disconcerting considering I just purchased it at a very fair price, I definitely didn't steal it by any means.

I'll follow up with a video.

Not gritty but yes, unless it's completely locked in she has a lot of wiggle :(

I'd agree that either you've got a problem in the pivot area then. Might even be missing a PB washer. Call Spyderco Monday, I deal with a lot of customer service depts for work but Spyderco is one of the few I've spoken to that I've actually liked speaking to. Heck I'd call just to shoot the breeze if it weren't such a waste of their time

the whole blade wiggles, not just the end. But I'm barely trying to move it. I'll be calling Spyderco tomorrow and sending it their way it seems. Thanks alot guys and gals!

I've heard of this once before. I don't personally own a m2 so I can't speak on the issue myself. YouTube user jdavis882 has a similar problem and if inremembebcorrectly he had a tough time getting the spyderco rep to help him. That being said good luck sending it in cuz that's prob your best option

Probably a dumb question, but did you try tightening both pivot screws?

They are TIGHT. I brought it to a local knife store and he even stated he wouldn't dare try and go tighter considering the moonglow scales

From your video, I can tell you that is not normal. I would send the knife in or talk with the dealer you bought it from about a replacement.
