Is there some secret code for getting custom knife guys to make something for you?

I have been looking into getting some custom g10 scales made for quite awhile now, but cannot seem to get any of the makers to even respond to my inquiries. I have read through many threads trying to find every maker I can, and have contacted most of them through the both forums and their website, but have still gotten no responses. I have even posted in the "Wanted: Knifemaker / Craftsman / Related Services" forum to no avail. I know these guys are very busy, but I would just like to know how the rest of you guys were able to get something made for you. I am about to give up, but damn would some orange scales look good on my ZT0350TS. :(

Scales are sort of his thing. I've seen pics of a lot of his work and most looks very well done and definitely adds a unique look.

Odd he wouldn't respond, maybe he's on vacation or having personal problems....or gotten too popular :D

I'd definitely try again.
 
I've spoken to him a few times. Good guy. Don't bother using his email or YouTube though, he rarely responds. go to his website for his phone number and contact him that way.
 
You can always try Krypto Glow. He sells on thebay and makes fine stuff. (No, not all of them glow)
 
Anytime someone gets good at what they do, they get really busy. They can either increase production (which usually increases their costs and means much more time and money just to keep up with orders), or just keep right on doing what they do and let the wait get longer. If their products/work is that good, then people will wait.

There are a lot of good custom makers / customizers on these boards. You can identify them by the fact that they're all busy as can be :)

i actually have a kryptoglow scale on my scamp and really like it. i didn't know they took custom orders, but i will look into it for sure.

JayGoliath sent me a PM about you needing some scales. I usually try to do batches of knives if I can rather than one knife at a time. But I do the individuals as well. I have a batch of 0350's people have requested that I'm planning on doing late July early August in a variety of colors. Check out my photobucket...I've got an 0350 on there in snow camo and some Orange scaled knives on there as well. http://m1058.photobucket.com/albums/The-Preacher?newest=1 Just finished a Spyderco D'Allara in orange with an Anso pattern. Since I'm a full-time pastor I do this on the side but I try to get them to people as fast as I can. I wouldn't have you send the knife until I was ready for it. Or I'd finish the scales an just ship them to you so you don't have to be without your knife.

Thanks Preacher! I have seen some of your work around here and it is truly amazing. My only concern is that your designs go far above and beyond what I am currently looking for on my 0350. Would you be willing to do some up in orange g10 with the stock ZT texture and thickness? I realize this doesn't leave much room for artistic interpretation, but I would really prefer to keep the "factory" look with only a change in color. I would have no problem waiting until you make a larger batch to get mine, but also do not want to waste your time when it could probably be better spent making things for people who want more elaborate designs.
 
Thank you for your kind words. I'm sure I could give you more of a factory feel in a custom color like orange. I'm making preparations for my 0350 batch and I'll look into some orange g-10 that is textured. I'll keep you posted.

i've actually got someone else working on it, sent it out yesterday. thank you so much for being the only member of this site to get back to me though. it's nice to know there are some great guys behind great designs! :thumbup:
 
I'm with you to date I have never got a response from any of them or several custom knife makers when I was interested in a custom. I am just going to make them myself I've found some places with good prices on G10 blanks. I am in Taylor's but am in Clemson a few times a month so let me se how my own set goes.

BTW I've done a lot of aluminum cylinder porting so I am pretty handy with a die grinder

i might have to pick up a leek for you to do. i can't believe kershaw has never offered it in orange, considering it has been made in like 100 versions. what would the price on something like that be? feel free to PM if you'd rather keep the info private.
