Hi, this is my first time posting here, please forgive me if I make any mistakes.

I'm looking for a folder with these features :
1. Tip-down carry
2. Right-hand pocket clip
3. 3 to 4 inch blade
4. Not a liner/frame lock
5. Not a back lock

I've found something with those features in the Benchmade AFCK, but it's too expensive and hard to get.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What I mean is that the AFCK fits the characteristics of what I'm looking for in a folder, but it's too expensive.

The Benchmade 940 fits the bill. If you buy online, they're not overly expensive. And they're worth every penny. There are several Benchmades with axis locks that fit your description. The Griptilian would be worth looking into if price is a factor.

Happy hunting!

Didn't find any that fits the bill at Cold Steel's web site, sorry. Maybe there isn't such a folder other than the BM AFCK.:(

Axis lock knives do not fit the OP requirements. He is looking for tip down carry. All of the Axis lock knives I am aware of are tip up!

That's true, the lock would get stuck on the clip if it was tip down :D.

Basically, ruling out liner/frame/back locks is the beef of the industry. Axis/Arc/Ultra locks are all based on the same principle. Strong as hell, but all tip up carry due to the lock and clip fighting for space.

I recently bought a Benchmade 740 Dejavoo, yeah it's a liner lock, but a damn good one at that. It carries tip down, has about a 4" blade, and is really light weight. It carries deep too, it makes it more sheeple friendly.

If you didn't rule out back-locks, which are some of the most time tested locks known to man, you could take a look at Spyderco knives. They have a whole lineup of knives that carry four different ways, the military that carries tip down (but is a liner lock), and several other knives which are good at the pricepoint.

Take a look at the Spyderco Manix, Great knife, carries tip up or tip down, and has a strong back-lock.

Hope this helps, J.

I've got the BM 530, a tip-up pocket clip, which I find clumsy to open as I have to slide my hand up the handle to the thumb stud to open. But I find opening the tip-down Spyderco Para-Military easier as my thumb is near the hole opener when I take it out of my pocket.

Try the Kershaw Shallot. It can be carried tip up or tip down, and is a frame lock. I have a lot of knives well into the $100's and beyond but this one I really like.

Landry, I'm just curious, why don't you like back locks? Until I read your requirement #5 of "Not a back lock" I was going to suggest you get a Spyderco Endura 4 or Delica 4. I carry and use an Endura 4 and a Spyderco Native almost every day, and their back locks have never been a problem.
I also know you want tip down carry, but as Quy4n8 said above, the Benchmade axis locks all seem to be tip up. Here's a suggestion to get around the slowness of opening a tip up that you described above and have a Benchmade Axis: Get one of the Griptillians with the oval shaped thumb hole opener, then put a big black zip-tie in the thumb hole to create a make-shift wave opener. Then carry it tip up and practice snagging the zip-tie wave on your pocket as you draw the knife. It should pop open fast and easy with just a little practice. This is just a suggestion, but I hate to see you miss out on Benchmade's Axis lock just because they all seem to carry tip up.

Kershaw Speed Bump. Meets all your specifications, has a stud lock, and also has assisted opening. Search the auction place for Kershaw 1595ALBLK. Around $ 55.

Perhaps a spyderco UKPK? but it only carries tip up, but it rides extremely low, plus it's not a liner/framelock/lockback, it's a slipjoint.

The Kershaw R.A.M. is a great knife that may just fit your needs.
3 1/8" blade. Hawk lock. Super smooth flipper action.

Here's how the lock works.
And here's our very own SladeGT40 manipulating the flipper.
