I'm sure we're all aware of the wind-up led lights on the market, but I was wondering if such a thing existed as a high-quality aluminum bodied one that didn't totally suck in terms of lighting ability? It seems like most of the ones on the market either suck or have a radio built into them that makes them huge.

I have one you shake for 2 minutes for a full charge that lasts about 10 minutes. Cool thing is it never dies, batteries don't go bad etc. I have had it about 3 years. Theres no label on it, just US Pat 5,347,186. Its an emergency light, I have several other regular Mag lites mostly

I don't know of any good ones but those shake lights are not too bad. I have used them over the past few years and they consistently provide light but they are not very bright.

The lowes by me sells a wind up led flashlight that although not aluminum was made of a hard plastic similar to the tubes they sell online for storing things and seemed pretty solid and bright

I bought a Sunforce LED flashlite last winter from Canadian Tire. Great light is the only way to describe it. It uses both a solar and a hand winding function to charge up. I have rarely had to hand wind it. A good day in the sun will yield a few hours of decent light.

I use it every night to get around the house and the light is very reliable. I do this instead of turning on lights in the house which then makes it harder to get back to sleep.

It has 3 LEDs for bright working light, and a lithium battery. I got it for less than 20 dollars. Unfortunately they were only in stock for a short time, and I havn't seen them since. If I had known that, I would have bought several.

Damn. Just tried finding it with a google search and came up with nothing. :(

I have a squeeze light shaped like a pig that I'll sell you for $3. :)

Seriously though, I've never seen a high quality crank light with an aluminum body, and I see a LOT of lights thanks to my business. They are always plastic. Some are decent. I keep a crank one in my car that puts out a good bit of light and actually has multiple brightness levels, which is pretty cool for a crank light.

I'll keep an eye out for you though.
