I love the coating on the blades and i know they serve a purpose (rust and such) but is there any plans for some satin sexyness, non micarta handles?
Im a slut for pictures, Anyone mod there ESEE/RAT?
Got a pic for me to salivate over?

well first off it is not duracoat, it is a textured powdercoat specially made for Rowen, and secondly if you dont like it you can strip it off with paint stripper.

Yeah i realized that after i made the thread, i just put duracoat for some reason sorry

I think RAT might be coming out with stainless blades this year or later. They probably wont be coated.

No. Just possibilities for the future. 440C I believe.

so, these are gonna be no-edge training blades?

seriously, perhaps someone makes a 440C blade that holds an edge, but i've never seen it. IMHO it's a steel best left for the movie replica blades. always shiny, no edge needed stuff.

there are other stainless steels that would be better choices. i'm no expert on steels, so i'm not gonna suggest anything, but i'd just hope it's not 440C.

Heeere we go! :D

I stripped my old RC4 with sandpaper then gave it a patina. Kinda regretting that move, but I can always buy another. :D

440C would be fine by me. If you've never seen good 440C, I suggest you look for an older Buck (before 1984 if my arithmetic is correct). One of the sharpest knives I own is an old 440C 503. It holds a great edge.

There may be "better" steels out there, but 440C does just fine, and has done just fine for a very long time.

But hey, you likes what you likes :D.

I'd take one in 1095 or 440C.

Entrek exclusively uses 440C.

edit: For the record, I'd love to see some ESEE blades in 440C

I've never had problems with 440c. I wouldn't go smashing and prying with it, but I'd like a three or a four in it.

I personally like 440C, but then I also like AUS8, so my opinion is tainted :)

ESEE blades have always been made of 1095 and we know how great they are. I have other blades that are 1095 that are crap. Its not always the material but also the processes, temper, quality of the alloy, quality of the edge, etc that determine the overall quality. I have an older Buck Special that I have had since I was in my teens. Very good quality knife. I wouldnt baton with it or anything because I know how the handle was made, but it takes an edge well and keeps it. It is a bit harder to get that edge compared to 1095 but it is possible.

440c crap I dont think so, some people have owned to may blades that say
440 C H I N A. If your knife says this on the blade it is not 440 C its something much crappier from china.

As stated prior, 440c is a great steel in general. My older Bucks hold a fantastic edge and are very sharp. Some of the older 440a crap steel gets confused with 440c.
