Is this 110 a third series knife?

I bought this knife in Southern California in the late sixties and carried it in the Marines and then on a variety of construction jobs in the early seventies. I finally switched to a smaller Puma copy because it rode more comfortably in the pocket.

...I'm not certain TLC...but doesn't the Third Version have "integral bolsters" without a separate rear spacer??...I believe I see a separate spacer there...

My books say that second versions had the intregal bolsters, third versions returned to a separate steel spacer.

I thought I better jump in here and really confuse things. :D
The knife is a 4th version, based on the spring holder, (or rear spacer), that is a separate piece and is made of brass. You say you bought it in the late 60's and that has me confused becuase I am pretty sure we started using the brass spring holder in about 1970. The rocker rivet looks brass in the pictures which means it is variation 1 of 2 shown under the 4th version.
I hope this helps and by the way, Welcome to the Forums!

...Thanks TLC...I'm too cheap to have a book so I tend to rely on my "swiss cheeze" memory... :p

Thanks, Joe.

I might well have bought it in 1970. I was still in the Marines until December of that year, and I'm certain that I had it while I was still in uniform. Until your post, I figured I bought it in '68 or '69, but 1970 is just as likely.

In my unit, belt sheaths were considered "out of uniform", so we had to stow them in our trouser or coat pockets. Every Marine PX I've ever been in had a Buck display.

This site is amazing as far as collected knowledge! Thanks again!

The late 60's and early 70's were a tough time...especially for The Corp.
Semper Fi Devil Dog...

...Here's a few pics of my "Third Version" 110 I believe...Mine has larger scale rivets, however, which is a bit rare I understand...Most had the smaller rivet heads...and yes...the rocker rivet/pin is brass...and there's NO separate rear spacer...

Most of what I had came from Levine's 4th edition, it seem the data there is confusing. I gotta break down and buy that new updated Blade's book!

That may not be as enlightening as you may think...Blade's Guide has some sections that seem to contradict what other Buck researchers [Richard Matheny comes to mind] have found...

Any excuse to show off some Bucks. This is a photo of an early 3rd version with only Buck stamped on the tang.

Here's an early 4th version with a brass rocker pin.
