My experience is limited, but I'm going to say staglon.

I would like to be as sure of winning our State Lottery that is definately Staglon...when sellers dont allow your question to appear at bottom of listing you can be fairly sure they are not about to enlighten others on what it really is and also that they are hardly surprised at their mis-description or your revelation!...you can tick a box as a seller for it to appear as a question on bottom of listing....for those that dont do the Bay as sellers...someone will at least get a genuine pre 2004 knife which is more than a lot of buyers are getting at the moment....Hoo Roo

Yeah, first a sea of newly finished pakawood PH2's, then 152s and now 167s. Next it seems a load of PH1s are on the way. Personally, I won't be bidding.

I say Staglon too!! It's not like the pictures are too bad to tell IMHO.

Positively Derlin. I mean Darwin. Er... Delrin. Look at the dark dye remnents next to the tang and in the prepunched compression rivet holes.

Codger has spoken; Game – Set – and match. IT's DERLIN :thumbdn:

When in doubt, you can also look at the ridge patterns on the knives in the original flyers on Larry's COSRUS site. While the dye may vary from the photo samples, the ridge patterns generally do not. Very seldom were the UH cover molds changed. But also remember how they were dyed, assembled, and then reduced by glazing.

Has anyone seen real stag on a 167?

Good question, NO I have five 167UH knives - all have Darlin handles.http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/gallery/image_page.php?album_id=131&image_id=4166

Some of my Badgers have stag handles. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/gallery/image_page.php?album_id=131&image_id=4118

This is a nice knife with stag handles - I do not know when it was made - never seen one before I found this one.

Try looking at eBay "Schrade 167" they slow up at $40.

It seems this thread has successfully confirmed my assertion. Hopefully people will bid expecting delrin. Larry V, the only stag 167 I have seen is the Copenhagen "UST3GS - Fisherman's gift set, 167UH & 885UH w/ burnt stag handles, Copenhagen shields, Copenhagen blade etch, lasered wood display box w/ bass boat scene, Ship 11/9/92 - 500 pcs." to quote, who else? Codger! They surface occasionally and I remember bidding (unsuccessfully :() on one this past October.

I had already noticed everything Codger mentioned when making my own assessment. YES! lol I have learned a thing or two after all. Thanks for sharing your sage advice yet again Michael. Bladeforums has lots of knowledgeable people but few share the knowledge as freely, as fully and as often as you. You know when to kid a kidder but you aren't cruel and you spend a lot of your "knife time" with Schrade so it seems. I'm sure I speak for all when I say we are very lucky to have you in this community!

Codger, I'd hate for your head to swell up and wreck that fine Shikari hat so consider this your 2012 dose of "Thanks!". From here on in it's gonna be rough :p

That one was a no-brainer to me. I have not seen a 167UH with real stag handles., but have seen 164UH.

I have just recieved an eMail from the seller, his answer - "it's not the stag handles people are interested in on this knife."

My question was not posted by that seller.

Well, things are getting a bit crazy with the sellers. Like a Sharpfinger NIB with a starting bid of $99 and a BIN over $170. Crazy dat.

Yes to be Blunt....Sharpfingers...Sharpsellers...Sharppractices....SharpTaylors......Sharpprices........Sharpdescriptions.....Shaftedbuyers......Shameschrades.....Schitknives....Subterfuge...Substandard..SomeSchrades Suck....we must be Supercillious Schmucks to put up with it all........Hoo Roo

There have always been sharpies in the knife business, at least since people began buying them as a hobby. I have little reason to believe it will change any time soon. In fact, anywhere a sharpie perceives there is money to be made from easy marks, they will be there ready to lighten wallets. It is up to us as knife buyers to know and buy the knives, not the stories.

The world has always been full of you-know-what. I had a pretty "sharp" learning curve the first few months I was interested in knives. I felt pretty sorry for myself when I got my first genuine Pakistani "Damascus" trapper from some "Carolynn" somethingorother on the east coast. But I learned quickly and still learn something almost every day. Now it is a challenge which I embrace. The hunt is a good thing. I still get a little burned on the edges here and there, and now and then, but it is all part of the game. You might say I have developed a "sharp" eye. I still don't know how Hal and some of you guys get the REALLY REALLY good stuff so often, but maybe I get my share. One thing that was hard for me, and I still sometimes slip: Correcting sellers' bad listings. What a waste of time. I just have to let go of that. Anyway I just wanted to say that the hunt is still positive for me. One thing that keeps it exciting for me is that I do not now and have never fixated exclusively on Schrade knives, although they are a key part of my um...accumulation. Cheerio.
