I will be attending the Philly auto show this year and I'm wondering, would it be a bad idea to bring a small knife, like my chive to this event? I cannot remember if they have metal detectors there.. But if anyone has been to a or the Philly autoshow, can you bring a knife? Thanks guys!

I didn't go this year, but I believe 3 years ago they DID have metal detectors.

They may have eased up a bit, not sure.

If nobody else chimes in, I will give my friend a call who attended this past weekend

I've accidentally gone to several metal detector/security search-type events with a Swiss tech Utili-key on my key chain. Oops.

Sorry I don`t know about the show, but what a world I remember going to the airport with an emerson clone and just throwing it into the basket and grabbing it right back out and off I go onto the plane. This sucks!!

Yeah, I remember doing the same with my BM/Emerson CQC-7 and it was fine. However, they wouldn't let me through with my little Spydie worker cuz "it has teeth". Go figure.

Ok thanks guys, yeah I went 2 years ago and I think they had metal detectors.. I doubt that they eased up so I wont test it.. Except with the kershaw Money clip.. Got through a Cruise Metal detectors with that thing.. hehehehehehe!

If they had them a couple years ago, things have only gotten more severe since than. I wouldn't take anything of high value.

Why not call the PA Convention Center or the organizers of the Intl. Auto Show and ask them? You can Google for contact info.

Probably faster and a lot more accurate than getting info off the internet.

CWL; Yeah its a good idea, but when I went on a cruise and wanted to take a vik, I contacted CS and they never responded.. And Well If they have metal detectors, that pretty much means that you can't have any sort of weapons in the showroom..

That is when you develop a limp and use a alumimum cane...beats a tiny knife, especially with a bit of kendo training.

Metal detectors were designed to detect weapons. I would think any knife one is carrying legally should be fine, but often arbitrary rules are established by convention center managers like limits on knife blades, which are often set at 2.5 inches.

The only safe thing you can do is carry a small bladed knife or no knife. Often such inane policies include a provision that you can't simply check your knife at the door. In short, leave or lose it.

You can always call ahead and give the organizers hell for their idiotic policies.

I was at the Detroit auto show, and there was no metal detectors. I had left my spyderco scorpius at home, but had put a SAK cadet onto my keys figuring that it might be ok, and if not I would tell them I was going out to my car, but then slip it into my steel toed boot and go in another door. I don't know why the philly show would be any more secure than detroit, but who knows.

Yup - Works for me. My cane has went alot of places for just this reason.

As far as knives here's the rule with any security point-

Make sure you can either :

1) Run it back to your vehicle or hand off to someone not entering
OR
2) Carry a $5 piece of crap that you don't mind ever seeing again.
