.

I'll let the folks who have one give you their impressions, knife dimensions, etc., but that is a very large knife to start with.

What is that blade style called?I like the straighter profile and the deep belly of the blade very much.I have a first generation Cold Steel ATC in my knife collection(BTW the flat grind chips easily)that has a profile similar to that one but with a narrower waist to it.I have been considering even having such a knife custom made(ATC profile but saber groung and thicker waisted) but then I see that wonderful shape before my eyes and noe I'm here asking questions......

I may have to buy one if it can be had with a black horn handle with silver fittings.

Sopmodm4,

I believe this is the Himalayan Imports Salyan 800 pound model. If correct, you could get this much bigger as the MegaSalyan model , weighing about 5.6 pounds. Use the search feature in this forum and in the HI Archives to get further impressions on this model.

Hope this helps

Oh my those things are rather crude aren't they(Super/Mega Salyan)?I want something in the 3lb range that is much like the logo knife but stretched at the waist with a handle that remains the same size as the smaller model.I don't need a knife that's almost as heavy as my rifle.I was just admiring the shearing potential of that broad, deep belly and the elegance of the curve in the spine(as opposed to the sharp angle of the rest of them).I guess I'm asking for the impossible judging by the amount of humor that other people's similar posts have generated in the past.Too bad for me I guess but I do appreciate the help though.

Thanks

Don't give up yet. Bill has traveled about 24000 miles, spent 2/3 weeks overseas, had a heart attack, and had a 12 oz soda can full of pus drained from his leg from an infection of the calf of his leg where they removed the artery for the bypass... all in about 2 months. Then top that with a couple failures to communicate that ended up ( as from his point of view totally FUBAR ) nothing like what he tried to order, ugly as sin, and still in demand enough to order another batch. He and the kamis have a love/hate relationship anyway, but hold off and let Bill get his strength back they'll probably give it another try.

Kamis have been working at duplicating this Salyan for 10 years -- they come within reason but never do it exactly and why I'm not sure. This Salyan cho has never been duplicated by anybody.

The version in this picture is a khukuri made about 1940 in Salyan and is a 12 inch officer's model. If you look closely near back of blade in chopping area there is gold inlay which says "Salyan."
