Thought this was pretty cool. Is it a saber that was made into a tobacco knife? It's out of Kentucky. What's your opinion on this piece?

I mostly only collect Confederate relics, but recently I'm getting into collecting 19 century knives, farm tools, etc... I basically like anything from the 1800s. Lol

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Knife-like object of indeterminate use and origin made from a sword-like object of indeterminate age and origin.....
Most Confederate knives and swords aren't real.

Yes, I know a lot about Confederate relics, and how many that are faked, etc... I'm a Confederate Genealogist and Historian for the SCV. I have 74 Confederate ancestors, and a pretty decent sized collection of relics. I'm branching out to collecting old knives and farm tools and I don't have a lot of experience in these.

This was not advertised as a sword, saber, Confederate, or Civil War.

It was advertised as an old handmade tobacco knife found in KY. It really peaked my interest because it looks to be a saber that was repurposed as a tobacco knife.

The Civil War lasted 4 years.
Swords, sabers and the like have been made for a bit longer than that......
Unless it has markings or some sort of provenance that is verifiable its just an old tool that might have made from something that may have been a sword of some sort.

And that's what makes it fun! Lol and for 30 bucks I can't go wrong. I bought it.

Lol. You often hear about making swords from plows. Making swords back into farm implements makes sense.

Joel 3:10 says Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak say, 'I am strong.'

Those who beat their swords into plowshares shall till the fields for those who do not. - Unattributed source, probably Ben Franklin
