Is this a decent knife?

cabelas carries great stuff, except when it comes to knives. they do have the koa line, but thats about it.

no mention of steel type, tang, and the word "replica" leads me to believe it is for display only.

get the buck.

Daniel Boone carried a Bowie knife? I'd like to see what the folks on the BRL forum have to say about that one.

Hey guys any of ya know about this knife? Is it american made?, good?, junk? overpriced?

Wanna know cause Im going to cabelas soon and was thinking about this or a buck 120.

Hard to tell. What do you want to do with it? Looks like it would make a dinkum wall hanging.

I didn't think the Buck 120 General was still made.

That Boone knife looks like a fantasy knife, better mounted on the wall than used in the woods. I would go with the 120. Dave

Good choice, the proline comes with lifetime factory sharpening. Good thing to know when you get frustrated trying to get it back to its original edge with a stone.

read the two customer reviews. both gave it a 3 out of 5 saying quality & workmanship were disapointing. they also stated it was roughly finished. ,,VWB.

cabelas still gets a proline general made for them and I'm going to go with that.

Good choice. Good to know about the 120 being still made for Cabella's. It's not in Buck's catalog.

I would have to say that this one is a fantasy knife, and only worthy of wall hanging, or as part of a wannabe mall ninja's outfit.

I'm not a historian, but a quick search I read Daniel Boone died in 1820, and the Sandbar fight that featured the first "Bowie" knife did not occur until 1827. Still, only B. Levine and crew would be qualified to comment. For all I know knives we now think of as "Bowie" knives were common in DB's day.

Aside from that, telltale signs that its crap include the fantasy appearance, the failure to mention what steel the blade is, other than "stainless," no country of origin listed, and last but not least, both the reviews on the Cabelas site say it's not well made.

I've had 2 Buck 120s and they are good knives.

You guys are bein' too hard on the Bowie Boone knife. They said it was a "faithful reproduction." That crummy knife Daniel Boone carried around was hand made, just like this hand-made version of the knife from Pakistan. Actually, if this knife was a finely made working knife, do you really think it would be selling for seventy bucks? A quality knife like this would go for more like $270.
