I picked this up at Blade in a fancy trade.
Assist Open
Gold pearl handles
File worked spring and liners
What appears to be gold pins

Was told it was a Don Hanson.

Can anyone confirm, deny or offer any additional information, please?

Thanks in advance.

Keep Care,

Tim

It doesn't look like it to me, but to be sure, is there a tang stamp like this or just the DH? I'm sure Don will be along soon.

Hanson started using the sufish mark about 1995 or so. IIRC he used DH before that. His early work that I've seen was more traditional with brass liners, nickel silver, carbon steel, no gold. He's made a lot of knives. Call him up, 573-674-3045. He answers his phone.

Pappy, that is one of mine and it's an old one, 94 or 95. Brownshoe is right, the sunfish
stamp started late in 95 or early 96. I only made a few like that, 5 or 6. Hope ya enjoy it!

Greg, that really is a good close-up of my tang stamp

GOOD GET, TIM!!!;)

Very interesting lock assy on this old girl. Don was clever even back then. I think you better hang on to that knife.

Thanks for the confirmation. Don, could you tell me anything more about the knife? Blade steel? Pins/liners brass or gold wash? Stuff like that?

Now I feel a little guilty. I got the better of the trade for sure. Nice knife. Lock and spring work like brand new. Press the lock and that wee blade just zips right out into place as smooth as silk.

Sweet knife.

Pappy, glad you like it. Blade and spring steel is 01, lock spring is 15N20, brass liners and nickel silver bolsters. The pins should be nickel silver, but someone else could have replaced them with gold? I didn't use gold back then.

The unusual lock is an old Kabar design. Simple but not easily done.

The lock is actually what made me want to do the trade. It is so very simple. I like looking at something like that and trying to envision how to do it. When I realized how much work is in that lock to get it to work, that made me want the knife. It's not just that it works............. it's that it works soooo smoothly and precisely. You did a great job, Don. I'm lucky to have that knife.
