Is this a fair price for this anvil?

Seems a bit high for 100lb anvil. I got a 125 lb trenton made anvil in CDA for $150 this spring and the edges and face were much better so there are deals to be had out there yet. So either offer less or keep hunting is my vote, just depends on how quickly you are looking for a anvil.

I've been anvil-less so far, and i'm not doing to shabby. I'd just like to start drawing out steel so I can make wider knives.

That size anvil, from peter wright, in that condition, I wouldnt pay more than 175 for. For a good shape used anvil 2$ per pound seems to be the 'good price' range right now (long gone are the days of 1$ a pound) but that one looks a bit rough and abused around the edges.

That said, you dont need a "anvil" to have a good anvil. If you can get a 50-75lb chunk of 4140 in 4x4 stock, y ou've got an anvil that you can forge on right there. Infact many knives in places in asia and africa are made on 'stump' anvils with a surface area no larger than about an inch by an inch, and which only weigh a few pounds, and are driven into a large stump and used sitting down.
