Hi all, I'm somewhat new to knifes and a complete noob to Spyderco. I have reason to believe this knife is a fake on Amazon. In the pictures it looks like it says the steel is some mystic unheard of form of steel called "V8-10". And also, the price... its nearly half off! Is this a good deal or a fake? [Link Removed]

I just read the product description and it says its vg-10. As far as if its real probably yes as its sold and ships from Amazon.
I dont have any real experience with spyderco so some one that knows better will have to verify.
Also I dont think you can post a link to a non bf dealer. I may be wrong

Probably real. That's about the going price for online knife shops.

The steel is VG-10. Spyderco uses it a lot. I love it.

It's a real Spyderco. Look closely at the pics. The steel is marked VG-10. Also, the knife is being sold and shipped directly by Amazon, not a third party vendor. It's real.

I was looking closely at the pics, im just always skeptical about buying from an online third party site like Amazon or Ebay. Look at this pic, unless the letter 'G' is lowercase (Which it might be because I own no Spyderco knifes) Itd say it says "V8-10" http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61Dcv0OJ7fL._SL1500_.jpg

That's an illustration with a mistake on the steel type. Look at the actual pics such as this one. The stamp is deep, making it look like an 8, but it's VG-10.

Again, the knife is being sold directly by Amazon. Not a third party vendor on Amazon. It's not a fake. Trust me. If the item is being shipped and sold directly by Amazon it's not a fake.

I would be somewhat comfortable that it ships directly from amazon because of their return policy. But I do remember a fellow forum member getting a a fake dragonfly salt directly from amazon a few months back. And if my memory serves me correctly spyderco contacted him directly after seeing his post here and wanted him to ship them the fake.

If the seller is Amazon, you have nothing to worry about. I've bought a bunch of knives, several watches, and even musical equipment sold directly by Amazon and have never received a fake. Amazon's return policy is very fair and is an easy process in the event you're not happy with your purchase. The important thing is to make sure that the item you're buying is being sold and shipped by Amazon.

Don't be so self-assured about Amazon.

It is common for buyers to buy 'real' and then return 'fakes'.

Amazon sales droids couldn't spot a fake even if they were motivated enough to even bother to check. They just stick it back on the shelf to be shipped off to the next unsuspecting customer.

Sad but true.
