benchmade nagara has the nak-lok... is this more like a liner or compression lock? is it like either one? plz lay out how it works

It works like the compression lock.

Not really. The compression lock wedges a locking tab between the tang and a stop pin, so the only way for the blade to close is by compressing the steel tab. The nak-lok has a similar tab which moves in from the side, but it grabs a hook on the tang much like a back-lock.

Sorta like the button lock on an automatic?

Usually the button lock on an automatic is a spring-loaded plunger that fits into a recess on the tang; one recess locks it shut, the other locks it open. The nak-lok has a hook on the lock tab like the one you find on the lockbar of a back lock knife. Instead of lifting up (pivoting up when you press the release down) the button pushes the leaf to the side to release the blade. As far as I can tell from the diagrams, it doesn't lock the blade shut.

Think someone could hook us up with decent pictures of the two locking systems. I cant really seem to find good pics of either.

i played with a nagara at Ross cutlery in downtown Los Angeles the other day, its one hell of a folder and that lock is solid, and yeah it does kinda look like an anorexic sebbie:p

Cheers!
