Is this a good manual to start with?

The Advanced Knife Makers Manual. Found this on a web page searching for knife stuff. Does anyone recommend this book? Or other books? Thanks, John

"How to Make Knives" by Loveless and Barney comes highly recommended from me.

"Step-byStep Knifemaking -- You can do it" by David Boye is also highly recommended, but I don't have it, yet.

I haven't heard anything of the book you mentioned.

I have Loveless' book, and the pictures are mostly quite poor, but the text is worth it. I looked at Boye's book, too, and it is REALLY good. Probbaly better than Loveless', in my opinion. Check Bullman Cutlery for really good book prices...

Most of the books out there are good but outdated. I have never seen the one mentioned. We had a discussion on compiling a knifemakers bible at one time but it never happend. The forum is next best thing IMHO

Take a look!!!

I own both of these books:
"How to Make Knives" by Loveless and Barney

"Step-by-Step Knifemaking -- You can do it" by David Boye

I recommend both but the one by David Boye has much more content, tips, pics and illusrations.

I'm curious - I've never heard of that book could you put up the URL for the webpage you found it on?

Thanks a lot.

For the beginner, you can't beat the late Bob Engnath's make a knife by the numbers description at his website.

The Lovelace book is good, as it shows the different ways to make a knife.
