Just from the pictures it looks like it could be. The butt piece is right, the handle looks to have the grooves in the right place, the shealth looks right. I also see some engraving on the blade that looks similiar to two of my HI's. Looks like it could be a steal if it is. If I bid on it my wife would use it on me, so this is purely for educational purposes. :D

I know there are other makers that -size- besides Himalyan Imports;
Khuk.House included i think

Since it looks good in pic
& will likely be a display item...........

price is great so far.

I'm betting it's a Ghurka House khuk due to the finish on it based on what I've heard about them.
I'm also basing it on Ghurka House's fascination over these khuks. I think they sold a lot of them. Bill would sell them but sorta discouraged people buying them because they weren't gonna use 'em for sacrificing buffalo, basically worthless for much of anything else, and their weight made it less cost effective to ship from Nepal.

well, anyone who wants it here will have to pay 300$+, cause im dextersilot on ebay :D

i have a thing for oversized blades (well... khukuries anyways)... one of these days, im going to have to start getting the superthick versions...

the only thing that looked like a functional problem is the lack of superfrog (wich i could just replace with homeade belts).

the one question i would ask the seller is if he could send a picture of the simbols at the bend... not sure if they are actually there or not, but it looks like it. in fact, i think i'll send him just such an email...

I've seen those big ones on Ebay before with the same ad. Probably not HI.

Superfrog? Seth, ya gonna wear it on your belt? LOL

Steve

Edited: The last one sold for $117.50 on 5/22/2004. Auction #2246304079
Hope this is helpful.

Current bid is $102....your bid is $300....hmmm...I think I'll bid $295. :D

Actually, there's an oversized charge for shipping parcels over a meter in length.

they said 23$ with insurance for my zipcode, wich isnt to bad. if my bid gets close to topping out, it will cost about what my 30" ang cost

I meant international air shipping from Nepal. There's a hefty surcharge for overlength packages. If you get it, you'd just have to pay for shipping from Canada. Good Luck!

Bill told me a story about a knife dealer back east who bought an oversized HI khuk ( don't know how big ) who used it as a kind of display to drawn folks in. It wasn't for sale. An oil rich arab walked in one day and wanted to buy it. The dealer decided it was for sale.

lol... awesome :D

actually, the guy has two shipping points, one in canaday, and one in washington. i beleive he shipps them to washington, and then out into the united states. i could be wrong on that one though....

i was really suprised how cheap the 30" ang khola was, since i thought that shipping would be considerably more.

IMO definitely not HI. Opening bid was US $0.99. lol. The guy is in the business & knows what he's got. Even tho I believe he dropped the ball on the cho description. You don't always get what you pay for. No wait, you don't always get what you expect. Well, however that saying goes.
BTW is he correct in saying saatisal is rosewood. I may have a complete set of saatisal handled steak knives. Any offers? ;)

I'm not clear on satisaal/rosewood. Maybe one of the forum woodchucks knows.

( I don't give a hoot myself, but that's just my point of view. ) Horn is nice if it's cured right, but wood can be reshaped to fit my hand easier. If horn cracks, there's superglue or blackened epoxy.

I think there's something special about forged steel handled with natural material that lets the thing bond with you. Plastics, Micarta, brass and aluminum, or other composites just don't feel right to me.

Bill says the Saatisal is a form of Nepali oak. I know it's a lot different then the Rosewood we used to get from Shop-1.
The Rosewood was much darker and with a finer grain than the Saatisal, generally had much prettier grain as well.

Rosewood is a tighter grain, saatisaal is more open and less oily....IIRC

Anybody here win the auction?

Dextersilot won. Is that really you Seth? $107.50 WOW! The chakma & karda look nice. Bet the khukri doesn't even begin to compare with the 26.5" HI chiruwa. Nice snag tho if it's a N.K.H.

Seth,
If that was really you, looks like a sweet deal whoever made it. When you get it could you post some better pictures? It is kinda fun to see if the origin can be determined. Like a kanti from the Nihonto world.
Mike

i did win it :D

it'll be about 145$ with everything added, 25$ shipping and insurance, and the int. M.O.+global priority will add another 8-10. even so, 145 is a mighty fine price :D

to be honest, i dont think anything will ever compare to my shiva. even goliath doesnt have that kind of bueaty... (26.5 chiruwa ak, and 30" ak)

all i really ask of this thing is that its usable quality, edge hardned, and doesnt explode when i use it.

and at 145, even if its 420js, the price is about right.

from one of the pics, it looked kindof like there was a makers mark at the end of the scroll work at the bend... but that could be digital compression artifacts...

anyone know how the himalayan imports janawar katne differes from this one?
