Somebody has just informed me that this is a limited edition 940 with a blade swap. Is that right? Did they only make a limited run of the black handled and blade 940's? Anybody know? Is doesn't have the limited edition on it but I am thinking he is right because i don't see alot of them or any for that matter. Said only 300 were made.

What does the model number say on the box?

The only black 940s I've seen have been limited editions but I'm not 100% sure there were never any in production. I know I don't see them often though and I'm always on the lookout for 940 variations. Looking at the finish, that could also be scales from a 943 with a 940 blade. Here's a photo of my 943 that I did a blade swap with a 940-1.

Interesting . These blade swaps throw everything off as what you actually have. Says 940BK. Does that just mean it was a green handle and black blade before you think?

Yes 940BK is the current production model with a green handle and black blade. I think somebody just did a blade swap with a 943 and your 940BK.

God I love Benchmade. The information just pours out when calling them. Figured everything out within 5 minutes. Is blade swap with a 943 handle. Some jackass polished the top silver to look like a 940-1101 but inside is still blue like on the 943. So that's that. Never thought to look into it before i traded somebody for it. Just accepted it as being a 940Bk / BK . Gotta look at blades more carefully and do the research before doing deals. Still a great knife either way. Not original though. I might swap my green 943 handles with this one to make it mostly original.

Hey Ulf,

Was this represented as a Limited Edition from the person whom you did the deal w/?

No they didn't say was a 940-1101 but they didn't say had the 943 handle swap either. I blame myself for not doing research. Not a big deal to me personally (the member is newer and probably didn't know himself)but would have been nice to know from the person i traded with. As said blame myself. Just figured there was a BK/BK 940's out there that weren't limited editions. Would just keep it if didn't like my 941 blade shape more. Real funny thing is that my 941 has a S30V blade from a blade swap from the factory. Who I traded with didn't tell me had a blade swap on that trade either but later on figured it out. Is actually says 941 and has the S30V blade and has green handles. I didn't do my research before trading that one either. But not complaining at all cause would rather have the S30V blade than the original 154cm blade.:) Not original but better steel IMO so don't really care.

Well ended up doing this. Keeping both, F it. I like the black /satin 941 better now anyways. Will keep like that for sure. Didn't realize how good the 940 would look either.

Nice. The green scales grow on you, don't they? The green black combo is really nice and the black satin combo is always sexy. :)

It's not a limited edition, it's a black 940 blade on black 943 scales. The thing about limited editions is it will say limited edition on the box.

I wish they would do a run again of the 940 in red anodized handles, but also do a flow through pillar design like the 940-1.

I like the look of this all black 950
I have a 943, do you know if bench made can sell a black blade of a standard 940 ?

I think this ones a 940/943 combo brother. The 950 is the Rift. Also an Osbourne design but a bit more overbuilt/chunkier. Yes, there is a 940 black blade sold by BM. It just has the green AL handles, not black. I've only seen the black handles on the 943 which is what makes me think this is a 940 blade and a 943 black AL handle. I'd like to see what's the color on the spacer. Cause 943 is blue and 940 is purple. That should answer the original threads question at least to some extent because I guess you can swap spacers just as easy if your swapping blades
