Is this a new blade marking for Bura?

All of my other Bura's have a crescent moon, this one appears to have a sun about to supernova :D

Sorry about the bad pic, I have one of those tiny digitals that takes great pics when you can hold it steady, not great for one handed operation while trying to hold a blade at just the right angle. :o

Gotya, but I have not seen a sun with two lines eminating from North, South, East and West on blades from other kamis, but it is on this blade as seen in the bottom right corner. Also Yangdu listed this as a Bura in the DOTD, and I figure she would know. So it begs the question, what is with the sun in the bottom left that looks like it is going to supernova.

It sort of looks like Sher's mark from the kami medallion.

Also, the picture is making me slightly seasick. (Kidding!)

Sorry man, I really had trouble getting in tight enough on the marking and had to angle the blade to get enough lighting to make it stand out.

Agreed, it does look like Sher's, but the other 3 markings are consistent with my various Bura's...

Yes, I just got a BDC with the same marking today. Listed as a Bura. In fact I was signing onto the forums to check the mark!!!!!

Those other three markings, I do believe, should be consistant with all HI khukris (or at least all that are large enough to be so marked). If my memory serves, they are the HI logo written in Nepalese and it's graphic (the sun with two rays at each of the cardinal points).

Without a proper picture, the kami mark (bottom left) does appear to be that of Sher.

I just got my Bura WWII villager today with the same markings.

It also does not have the U.B. on the right side in English.

Must be Nepalese for the same initials.

I have several BAS and Boomerangs and larger khulks that have only 3 symbols, missing the sun with two rays eminating N,S,E and W.

I agree, it looks like Sher... but we were all told they are Bura's work. Obviously a mistake could have been made and these are indeed Sher's work. I really don't care one way or the other, I'm just curious.

I stand corrected, it would appear that the top line is the kami's initials, the bottom left is the kami's mark, and the bottom right is the HI logo. Here is a picture of my CAK for comparison.

Let me see if I can get a decent side by side with my better camera. I'll try to put the BDC next to one of my Kumar pens, the only difference appears to be the Kami's mark. Initials and HI logo are identical looking to me, Be back in a few.

Unfortunately the lighting in my home sucks, and if I try to get closer to the blade the flash washes the image out. Hope this helps, a Bura pen next to the mystery marked BDC.

Sher isn't working for HI anymore. But it could be old stock.

Or possibly Bura changed his mark. Since the Nepali Royal Family is no longer in power maybe he decided to switch his mark?

I don't have search capabilities right now, but I seem to remember Uncle Bill saying that the kamis occasionally swapped markings, or their helpers mis-marked them sometimes. I could be mis-remembering, or just going senile.:D

This mark is by Bura in Nepali writing Lal Bhaduer.

Thanks for the info! Do you know what caused him to change from the crescent moon?

My apologies, actually. I was just busting your chops. Close ups on knives are pretty hard to get without some specialist equipment!

Can someone help me out with this one?
