Is this a proto or Wegner version?

I'd say that's the c73 Impala/(proto) Trakker... it was desinged to be machined g-10, with the green outer and a black under with the "pugs" cut through the green. I beleive it was changed to the current c73 setup due to price as well as difficulty to produce.

Yeap, thats what it looks like to me too.If you can get it for less than 200.00 it would be a deal.

It looks like this knife has a FRN handle. It is NOT marked as the original 20 G-10 scaled ones are. It's scales are smooth & rounded and the G-10 scales are "checkered" & square as well as the routed pug marks.
It looks like a Proto of the FRN scaled production test.
Could it be worth more than the "numbered handmade" original 20 knives???

The original ones were $300.00+ in G-10.

Yep, it certainly looks like a later FRN prototype model.
It's definately not one of the G-10 models.

It was reported that after the switch to FRN there were some manufacturing difficulties to be overcome. I remember that it was reported that the project hadn't been totally shelved, but that it was being put on the back burner (possibly way back).

Personally I think they should have gone with the G-10/BG-42 model, it's one of my favourites.

I would guess that it was one of the original prototypes made with the FRN handle. Technically, it never should have left the factory. There were some problems with the handle material.

We still have plans to make the model. More than likely in VG-10 as a lock-back. Tim has agreed to that direction.
