Is this a rare knife? (Physician's Knife)

It looks to be the knife labeled B, on page 175, of the Fight'n Rooster Book by Parker. If so, it was 1 of 82 with that particular handle and blade etch, probably done in 1980 or 1981.
Value given in the book is $175 for a mint knife. I believe that price is overstated.

what are the characteristics of a doctor's knife?

The typical "dcotor's pattern" has a thin spearpoint blade for reaching into small glass vials for medicinal powders, a flat metal end cap opposite the pivot end for grinding pills into powder, and a "spatula" secondary blade for mixing and applying salves.

Sometimes the secondary blade is a short pen blade instead.

The book is about 250 pages...about 225 pages are pictures of multiple variations of knives...up until about 1993. The rest is about family history and the beginning of the brand.
You can order it from Frank Buster's store @ 615-444-8070...or you might catch it on eBay.
